1. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We are currently recruiting a Research Fellow to undertake research in the field of bifacial tracking photovoltaic systems. The project will offer a stimulating interdisciplinary environment and access to a unique outdoor testing lab for sun-tracking systems. The successful candidates will join an interdisciplinary team as part of an EPSRC funded project “Bifi UK: Investigation of bifacial and sun-tracking systems for high latitude, and high diffuse climates”. The project will accurately measure bifacial performance under sun-tracking, validate energy yield models through experimental data, and then identify systems which produce the lowest levelized cost of electricity for temperate climates. These challenges will be addressed by a collaborative effort from an international and industrial team, which include the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Solar Energy Research Institute Singapore, the National Physics Laboratory, and the Chilbolton Observatory.

6. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

An opportunity has arisen for a Research Fellow to join the Faculty of Medicine, School of Human Development and Health based at Southampton University Hospital Trust. The successful candidate will join a research team involved in delivering 2 research studies: the Frail2fit study and the PIVOT study. The Frail2fit study aims to explore the feasibility and acceptability of training volunteers to deliver a multimodal online intervention which includes physical activity and nutrition interventions for older people living with frailty. The PIVOT study is a multicentre implementation trial exploring the use of trained volunteers to engage with older people in hospital to exercise during their hospital stay to reduce deconditioning.

7. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The project will exploit cutting-edge optical technologies to demonstrate radically new communication systems. These technologies include novel amplifiers based on doped optical fibres specially developed in-house, and radically new transmission fibres based on hollow-core fibre technology. You will take part in characterising these components and will be responsible for designing and executing the experiments that will best describe their behaviour. You will demonstrate their potential in communication networks, often in collaboration with the project partners and other researchers in the group and the ORC.

Application Deadline: 10 July 2023

8. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The post holder will undertake scientific research on Oligocene climate variability using lipid biomarkers as part of the NERC-funded project entitled ‘Solving the Oligocene Icehouse Conundrum” awarded to Prof Bridget Wade (University College London), Dr Gordon Inglis (University of Southampton), Dr James Rae (St. Andrews) and Dr. Fanny Monteiro (University of Bristol). The overall project will use a combination of micropalaeontology, multi-proxy geochemical data, and state-of-the-art Earth System models, to reconstruct and understand the relationships between atmospheric carbon dioxide, sea level, temperature, oceanic carbon cycle, and ice sheet dynamics during the Oligocene epoch (34 to 23 million years ago). This will address the fundamental disconnect found at present between CO2, temperature and ice volume during the Oligocene.
