2. Fully Funded PhD Position in computational psychiatry
Summary of PhD Program:
Our lab is interested in novel ways of phenotyping psychotic disorders, such as quantitative analysis of speech and language with large language models and natural language processing. In the context of a multinational EU Horizon project (TRUSTING) we will apply quantitative language analysis to predict relapse in psychotic disorders in a clinical trial. We will design and implement multimodal paradigms (e.g. combined fMRI and speech production) and use methods such as machine learning, multilevel analyses and computational modeling to decompose behavioral performance into interpretable aspects of cognitive and perceptual processing.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Psychiatric
Summary of PhD Program:
The research project includes two studies over a period of 4 years. Study 1 will examine differences in stress response and affiliative behavior between different attachment types using the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) in healthy subjects. Based on this, study 2 tests the pharmacological manipulation of the results from study 1 using a mu-opioid receptor agonist (morphine). The goal is to be able to explain individual differences in the pharmacological opiate effects on the stress reaction and affective behavior based on attachment types. The methods used include psychophysiological measurement methods such as facial electromyography (fEMG), heart rate variability (HRV) and skin conductance, taking blood and conducting psychological/psychiatric interviews (AAI,

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in theoretical chemistry
Summary of PhD Program:
The PhD project will deal with development and application of novel, accurate approaches for the study of functional compounds. A possible direction of the project is the development of advanced dynamic approaches for detailed and realistic study of reaction mechanisms and reaction networks considering in a sophisticated manner environmental effects (also under catalytic conditions). This can include the development of advanced enhanced sampling approaches and embedding techniques for highly accurate description beyond the DFT level / at catalytic conditions (possibly also combined with machine learning). Additionally, the project(s) may be carried out in close collaboration with experimental or other computational groups.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Bootstrap
Summary of PhD Program:
Bootstrap (“Boosting Societal Adaptation and Mental Health in a Rapidly Digitalizing, Post-Pandemic Europe”) is a major EU project on problematic internet use (PUI) among adolescents, funded by Horizon Europe. The project consists in developing a digital screening and assessment platform to understand which adolescents are at risk for developing PUI, developing machine learning algorithms for individualized assignment of different self-management interventions, checking these interventions for their clinical and cost effectiveness, and finally the development of a policy toolkit to promote accountability for digital human rights at local, national and European level together with interest groups.

10. Fully Funded PhD Position in Psychology
Summary of PhD Program:
The research focus of the chair is on social-cognitive development in infancy and childhood. The project focuses on multilingual language development in early childhood. Previous research shows that monolingual and multilingual children differ in the repertoire and flexibility of their communicative behavior. In the planned research project, the characteristics of these differences in early childhood (0 – 6 years) as well as the underlying mechanisms will be investigated in more detail. For this purpose, behavioral methods but also eye tracking or electroencephalography (EEG) can be applied.

12. Fully Funded PhD Position in Automatic Sign Language Processing
Summary of PhD Program:
SIGMA aims to provide fundamental tools for automatically processing sign languages, with the main goal of improving a higher-level task: sign language machine translation. Improving machine translation for sign languages is relevant for Swiss and international societies. While for hearing persons translation technology is mature and usable in every-day situations, such tools do not exist for Deaf sign language users. Deaf individuals can only be full members of a digital society if translation technology is afforded to them. The project is situated at the intersection between computer science, linguistics and accessibility studies, and therefore is highly interdisciplinary.
