3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Mobilizing Post-Anthropocentric Climate Action: A New Root Narrative (PACA)

Summary of PhD Program:

The thesis will be an integral part of the SDU Climate Elite Centre project, “Mobilizing Post-Anthropocentric Climate Action: A New Root Narrative” (PACA). PACA seeks to map post-anthropocentric social theories that challenge the nature-culture divide and investigate traces of these theories in the population. It assesses the extent to which such practices and beliefs can provide a positive narrative for a new organization of production and consumption practices and, finally, the role of universities as mediators of the emergent post-anthropocentrism. This project has the ambition to develop into an international hub for research on post-anthropocentric consumption and production systems as foundational for a sustainable economy.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computer Science / Computational Chemistry

Summary of PhD Program:

One potential focus area of the PhD project is the application of mathematical techniques to the modelling of atom tracking in chemistry. Atom tracking is used to understand the underlying reactions and interactions of chemical or biological systems, usually by using isotopic labelling methods. In a typical isotopic labelling experiment, one or several atoms of some molecule of the chemical system under examination are replaced by an isotopic equivalent. These compounds are then introduced to the system, and the resulting product compounds are examined, e.g. by mass spectrometry. From a theoretical perspective, developing a formal framework for tracking atoms through reactions is an important step towards understanding the possible behaviours of a chemical or biological system.

11. Fully Funded PhD Position in Audiology

Summary of PhD Program:

In audiological practice, diagnostic testing is primarily carried out at low to moderate presentation levels, even though higher-level sounds are common in many everyday listening situations. Research has shown that hearing-impaired listeners can respond very differently to such sounds, but these differences are rarely mapped out. Consequently, standard hearing aid solutions are routinely chosen, leading to suboptimal aided outcome for many users.

This PhD project will address that shortcoming by investigating methods for effective hearing diagnostics and hearing aid fitting, and thus for improving aided benefit. More specifically, it will comprise research into new hearing-diagnostic tests and gain prescription for high-level sounds, which will be compared to state-of-the-art solutions.
