3. Postdoctoral Positions

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

The postdoc position will explore one or more of the following four topics. The topics are ordered from most-preferred to least-preferred topic to pursue. 1. Explore the complex psychological and emotional experiences of parents, caregivers, and researchers, in the context of developing assistive technology solutions for people with severe cognitive impairment. The experiences might include, for example, feelings of accomplishment, helplessness, defeat, heroism, exhaustion, not trying hard enough, compassion, compassion fatigue, success, failing, rescuing, connection, lack of connection, and discomfort with disability. The experiences will be explored using thematic analysis of in-person interviews. 2. Develop participatory design techniques for people with severe cognitive impairments who do not have a clear and reliable means of communication. For some such individuals, the collaboration might involve behavior-and-response-based activities rather than traditional collaboration activities.

4. Postdoctoral Positions

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

The Willett Lab research focuses on a systems integration approach to musculoskeletal disease and regenerative engineering by applying novel imaging and engineering approaches to mechanistic biology problems. Our current work has three main thrusts: (i) cell and biologic therapies for the healing of large bone and muscle defects, (ii) multi-scale mechanical regulation of bone regeneration, (iii) intra-articular therapeutic delivery for post-traumatic osteoarthritis. The Postdoctoral Scholar will be responsible for conducting research and technical activities related to sponsored projects in Dr. Willett’s lab and on a project under the Regenerative Rehabilitation Moonshot program of the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance. They will perform in vitro and in vivo research on regenerative engineering and rehabilitation technologies, conduct data analysis and collaborate on reporting findings and discoveries in written and verbal form; and will manage, maintain and provide technical expertise for Willett lab equipment, protocols, and programs.

8. Postdoctoral Positions

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:

The Plesa lab aims to accelerate the pace at which we understand and engineer biological systems, particularly proteins. We are interested in uncovering the rules for the engineering of novel protein function, particularly in the areas of sensing and interfacing with engineering. Towards this end, we develop new technologies for gene synthesis, multiplex functional assays, in-vivo mutagenesis, and genotype-phenotype linkages. These allow us to both access the huge sequence diversity present in natural systems as well as carry out testing of rationally designed hypotheses encoded onto DNA at much larger scales than previously possible. Using these approaches, we aim to quickly characterize and engineer entire protein families, rather than focusing on individual proteins. Our work is highly-interdisciplinary and touches on aspects from many fields including bioengineering, protein engineering, biochemistry, synthetic biology, molecular biology, microbiology, structural biology, genetics, bioinformatics, and quantitative biology.
