The successful candidate will work with the Environmental Soil Science Group at Virginia Tech to evaluate the impacts of soil amendments and other conservation practices on overall soil health and greenhouse gas emissions, in addition to opportunities to develop research projects in soil carbon and nutrient cycling, plant soil interactions, rhizosphere ecology, precision nutrient management, etc.

The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable working with a diverse group of colleagues. The lab requires the candidate to be comfortable with interactions with mice to maintain a successful operation of the research activities. The Mei Laboratory studies the remodeling and regulatory mechanisms of the tumor microenvironment during tumor progression and metastasis. The lab combines single-cell technologies, genomic datasets, machine learning, and experimental methods to investigate how the tumor microenvironment and gene regulatory factors control tumor metastasis cascade. By advancing our understanding of malignant cell heterogeneity and tumor microenvironment remodeling, we aim to drive the development of novel therapeutic approaches for patients with metastatic cancer.

4. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The geodynamics group is looking for a Postdoctoral Associate to join a team investigating the thermal and volcanological evolution of Mercury. The successful applicant will develop a model of the thermochemical evolution of Mercury consistent with the available geophysical and geological observations. The origin and evolution of the northern rise will be investigated developing a suite of 3D numerical simulations of the thermochemical evolution of Mercury that integrate a new melting model with realistic assumptions regarding the mantle rheology. The models will be constrained geophysical and geochemical observations.

The key aim of our research is to understand how stress, trauma exposure, and PTSD symptoms influence context-dependent aggressive behavior within families. We focus on engagement in intimate partner violence, child maltreatment, and sibling aggression, with consideration of intervening social-cognitive interpersonal mechanisms. We have additional lines of research considering sex and gender differences in how stress and trauma impact broader family and interpersonal processes, the impact of family violence on children, and developmental processes that change if and how trauma exposure impacts social behavior.

The Vargas-Muñiz Lab in the Department of Biological Sciences at Virginia Tech seeks a Postdoctoral Associate in Medical Mycology and Fungal Cell Biology. The Vargas-Muñiz Lab studies the human fungal pathogen Aspergillus fumigatus. The Vargas-Muñiz Lab uses genetics, cell biology, microscopy, proteomics, immunological, and in vivo approaches to understand how A. fumigatus causes infection and responds to antifungals. The lab’s goal is to provide fundamental insight that could guide the development of new antifungal interventions. This position is for onsite work.
