2. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Despite differences in prevalence, pathobiology, and prognosis, all NHLBI prospective cohorts traditionally adjudicate incident acute myocardial infarction (MI) as a singular entity. This project has adjudicated etiologically distinct MI subtypes as defined by the 4th Universal Definition of MI in the MESA cohort. By adjudicating specific MI phenotypes and defining their epidemiology, we aim to evaluate the association of traditional and novel cardiovascular risk factors with the different MI subtypes. We expect this work to enable more precise risk prediction, discover novel pathobiology-specific risk factors, and develop targeted preventive strategies (e.g., anticoagulation for those at risk for type 1 versus type 2 MI).

6. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Postdoctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Anthony R. Flores in the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). Research within the Flores Laboratory uses a combination of clinical epidemiology, cutting-edge bacterial “omics”, and models of bacterial pathogenesis to uncover novel features of clonal emergence and mechanisms of pathogenesis in streptococci. Current projects include (1) gene regulatory responses in group A Streptococcus (GAS) to human antimicrobial peptides, (2) two-component system gene regulation and pathogenesis in group B Streptococcus (GBS), and (3) genomic epidemiology of GAS and GBS to detect novel clonal emergence and outbreaks using ongoing clinical strain surveillance.

7. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Choi Lab studies basic and pre-clinical research projects to understand biological mechanisms of carcinogenic transition in gastric carcinogenesis. The Choi Lab is a multiple (NCI- and DOD- supported) funded gastric cancer research laboratory. We use novel in vivo mouse and in vitro organoid models unique in the gastric cancer field. We aim to define cell plasticity and hierarchy of de novo stem cells responsible for malignant transformation from pre-cancerous cells to cancer cells. We also seek to develop novel therapeutic approaches to prevention of gastric cancer development and identify novel druggable targets for patients with high-risk pre-cancer and/or cancer.

8. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Our laboratory utilizes interdisciplinary methodologies in mouse genetics and neuroscience to understand how neural circuits in the mammalian brain are wired by diverse types of synaptic connections. A major emphasis is placed on examining fundamental principles of neuronal cell biology and molecular mechanisms. Specific projects will be focused on investigating the role of networks of cell adhesion molecules, including the Adhesion-class GPCRs, and their intracellular signal transduction cascades in synaptic circuit development and function. Our approaches are broad and interdisciplinary, and the postdoctoral scholar will have full access to the Sando laboratory’s equipment and approaches, including confocal and super-resolution microscopy, electrophysiology, cell culture models, GPCR signaling paradigms, and in vivo analysis of mouse models.
