1. Postdoctoral Position in Aptamer Development

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Aptamers are single-stranded RNA or DNA molecules that can bind to specific target molecules with high affinity and specificity. They have a wide range of potential applications including as research tools for studying biological systems, as targeted therapeutics for diseases, and as diagnostic tools (bioreceptors) for earlier and more accurate disease detection in biosensor technologies. We aim to create a library of aptamers to be used in different biomedical applications, ranging from biosensing to diagnostic approaches. You will be responsible for the selection of ssDNA aptamers for protein based biomarkers by means of capillary electrophoresis as well as low weight molecules via heterogeneous partition methods.

3. Postdoctoral Position in On modelling of multiphase flow in porous media

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

With the ongoing energy transition, the exploitation of the subsurface (e.g., for geothermal energy extraction, CO2 sequestration, H2 storage or even nuclear waste disposal) will increase. Ensuring the long-term effectiveness of deep subsurface storage systems relies on our understanding and modeling capability of critical relationships between natural media and engineered components. In the recently acquired ERC funded project Genies, we aim to fill current knowledge gaps related to mineral dissolution and crystallization processes with gas production and transport in porous media. Moreover, we address the impact of the presence of gas on mineral crystallization in tightly confined porous media, which is important for a realistic description of such processes in reactive transport models.

4. Postdoctoral Position in Circular recycling in photovoltaics (PV)

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

You will be working in the new topic area “circular recycling in PV” (headed by Dr. Ian Marius Peters) of the High Throughput Experiments Photovoltaik department. Our vision is to design new PV modules that are easier to recycle, and thus have an improved environmental footprint. This work is part of an ERC project that aims to design, model and realize new PV module architectures that i) use use materials with improved environmental performance ii) equip interfaces with a release mechanism, iii) use techno-economic and life cycle analysis to project economic and environmental improvement and guide development, iv) use industrial-grade materials and processes and v) experimentally demonstrate improved recyclability.

6. Multiple Postdoctoral Position in Development and Characterization of Tailormade Materials for Orbital Cinematography

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Several open positions are available at Peter Grünberg Institute – Quantum Nanoscience (PGI-3). The positions are funded by the European Union through the ERC Synergy Grant “Photoemission Orbital Cinematography: An Ultrafast Wavefunction Lab”. Directly watching in slow-motion videos how electrons move in quantum mechanical orbitals and how this motion shapes the functionalities of condensed matter has been a dream shared by all natural and life sciences. Based on synergies between photoemission orbital tomography, ultrafast photoelectron spectroscopy, lightwave electronics and advanced theory, the project “Orbital Cinema” will turn this dream into reality, by creating a cinematography at unprecedented time scales, faster than a single oscillation period of light.

8. Postdoctoral Position in Development of scalable superconducting quantum systems

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The mission of the subinstitute Functional Quantum Systems (PGI-13) is to create the technological and scientific basis to enable useful quantum computing. We focus on developing quantum devices, improving their coherence and materials, and implementing quantum gates and algorithms. We use superconducting qubits that operate at temperatures close to absolute zero and are controlled by high-speed signals. A key requirement is to preserve high quality quantum operations as we scale. Overcoming these exciting challenges lies at the interface between scientific research and engineering.

10. Postdoctoral Position in the domain of coherent spin shuttling for scaling semiconductor qubits

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Building on in-house fabricated devices, we have recently demonstrated the ability to shuttle electrons between gate defined quantum dots in Si/SiGe over micron-scale distances using only four different AC-voltages, independent of the distance covered. Theoretical consideration indicate good prospects for maintaining spin-coherence of the shuttled electron, which would make this approach very promising for scaling up semiconductor spin qubit devices. This position focuses on experimentally demonstrating coherent spin shuttling, shuttling-compatible high-fidelity qubit control and further ingredients for a shuttling-based architecture, using devices from academic or industrial fabrication.

11. Postdoctoral Position in Material bottlenecks of the global energy transition

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The transformation of our energy system towards greenhouse gas neutrality requires large quantities of materials for the construction of new energy technologies. Among them are critical materials whose availability may be limited due to various constraints. These constraints include geological resources and reserves, geopolitical developments, current and future limits in recycling, and material demand from other sectors of the economy. This can lead to material bottlenecks that could subsequently jeopardize the energy transition. Against this background, your research should focus on the one hand on the future material demand by energy technologies together with a PhD student co-supervised by you and on the other hand on analyzing the availability of primary raw materials as well as the competing material demands of economic sectors beyond the energy system.
