2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Biodiversity Monitoring using Camera Traps
Summary of PhD Program:
The PhD student will play a key role in this project, focusing on analyzing the extensive data gathered from the camera traps. Their research will be vital in advancing our knowledge of multi-species interactions and biodiversity in the Kalahari, particularly in relation to different land use regimes and climate change. They will employ existing methods for analyzing abundance, co-occurrence, and habitat selection from camera trap data, while also exploring the potential development of new approaches using hierarchical modelling.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in accompanying study curriculum development
Summary of PhD Program:
We are looking for a PhD student immediately or by appointment for the project “Accompanying research for curriculum development at the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich”. The main aim of this funded project is to scientifically address questions surrounding the goals and effects of current curriculum reforms. Multifactorial studies are intended to examine various key parameters (e.g. satisfaction, knowledge and skills) of medical students before and after the study reform. A longitudinal study is also planned in this context. As part of the research cooperation, evidence-based quality assurance and curricula maintenance are to be tested and established.
Application Deadline: February 29, 2024
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in neuroscience
Summary of PhD Program:
We use signal-processing techniques to develop biomarkers that can quickly and reliably detect epileptic activity in intracranial EEG (iEEG) recordings of epilepsy patients. In particular, High-Frequency Oscillations (HFO) are being validated as promising biomarkers to guide epilepsy therapy. The research group offers advanced, interdisciplinary PhD training and participation in cutting-edge clinical neuroscience and neuroinformatics research projects together with Prof. Giacomo Indiveri and Prof. Johannes Sarnthein. We have broad expertise in acquiring and analyzing human electrophysiology recordings (Boran et al. 2019 Science Advances, Dimakopoulos et al. 2021 Brain Communications, Sharifshazileh et al. 2021 Nature Communications).

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in transdisciplinary neuromodulation research
Summary of PhD Program:
In our transdisciplinary research project, we focus on the study of neuromodulation, both in its foundational research and its practical clinical application to tinnitus. Originating from atypical neuronal activity, tinnitus has remained a complex condition to cure. Recent developments in neuromodulation, especially transcranial electrical stimulation (tES), have shown potential as treatment methods. Furthermore, integrating multiple modalities of stimulation techniques, such as “bimodal stimulation”, has garnered interest.
