1. 02 Postdoctoral Position in Developmental Systems in a Simple Marine Chordate
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Christiaen lab uses a wide range of approaches, including molecular, cellular and embryological techniques, quantitative imaging, genomics including from single cells, genome engineering and computational biology methods to study development and regeneration, at a systems level, in tunicates.
Tunicates, especially the genus Ciona, offer unique opportunities to leverage state-of-the-art experimental and computational techniques and approaches to study chordate development with a cellular resolution and at the genome scale. Specifically, efforts using systematic CRISPR/Cas9-mediated mutagenesis, high-content imaging, data science and computational modelling are used to study the biomolecular networks governing cell fate specification and cellular behaviours, such as collective migration and oriented asymmetric cell divisions.
Application Deadline: 31st January 2023
2. Postdoctoral Position in Fungal Ecology
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
At the Department of Biological Sciences (BIO) there is a vacancy for a postdoctoral research fellow position within plant and mycorrhizal ecology, focussing on the role of mycorrhizal and other trophic interactions in affecting ericaceous and other dwarf-shrubs under global change. The position is for a fixed term of three years and is associated with the research project “The underappreciated roles of dwarf-shrubs in responding to and influencing global climate change” (DURIN) funded by the Research Council of Norway and the University of Bergen.
Application Deadline: 21st January 2023

3. Postdoctoral Position in human genetics
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Our research team applies genome-wide analysis studies, cellular analyses, and data science to better understand the mechanisms influencing growth and disease during infancy and childhood. This project leverages large longitudinal birth cohort studies to identify genetic mechanisms that control growth, appetite, energy metabolism and weight gain in the first years of life. These genetic discoveries will lay the foundation for our work to reveal biological and environmental mechanisms that may be targeted to prevent later obesity and type 2 diabetes.
Application Deadline: 20th January 2023
4. Postdoctoral Position in art history
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The position is affiliated with research project ‘Now Norway Made the World Whiter,’ (NorWhite), which is funded by the Norwegian Research Council (Researcher Project for Scientific Renewal). The project examines how a Norwegian innovation – the white pigment titanium dioxide – not only led to an aesthetic desire for white surfaces but was also connected to racist attitudes.
The appointed scholar will investigate how representations of national identity are linked to art, architecture, and visual culture from 1850 to the present, with an emphasis on recent art history (1850 – today). Relevant topics can be national identity building, industrialization, modernization, aesthetics and technology, color theory (white color), and postcolonial theory. The researcher will also work with the curation of an exhibition about the project’s theme and be the co-editor of an academic anthology.
