1. Postdoctoral Position in Environmental Analytical Chemistry

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The position will be associated with the project “Persistent organic chemicals in high-altitude atmosphere and ecosystems” financed by the Swedish Research Council FORMAS. Persistent organic chemicals (POCs) were recently found also at high altitude at the world’s highest atmospheric observatory (5240 masl), the Chacaltaya GAW station (CHC) in Bolivia. This project examines the hypothesis that the free troposphere is a critical long-range transport medium and leads to increasing POC contamination and subsequent risk to humans and ecosystems at high altitudes. The project aims to understand FT-mediated pollutant transport and potential sources, through close collaboration with atmospheric, meteorological, geological, and environmental scientists from European and South American institutes.

Application Deadline: 19 March 2023

2. Postdoctoral Position in Physics

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We seek a postdoctoral fellow to work on development and applications of the Gaussian Process for Multipole Response (GPMR) force-field for water, where the long-range interactions are described with ab initio multipole moments and polarizabilities fitted to the molecular geometry, and the short-range interactions are described by the Gaussian Approximation Potential (GAP) fitted to high-level quantum chemical energies (and forces).

Application Deadline: 20 March 2023

3. Postdoctoral Position in Environmental Science

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We seek to appoint a postdoctoral fellow with expertise in high-resolution mass spectrometry analysis. The position will be associated with an EU-funded research project (RE-MEND) that will pursue an interdisciplinary path towards better strategies to protect vulnerable individuals from mental illness. Comprehensive nontargeted mass spectrometry based adductomics, and other -omics in collaboration, will be applied on selected samples from large cohorts to improve the molecular and environmental understanding of mental illness, and to discover new biomarkers that can contribute in predicting susceptibility and resilience.

Application Deadline: 9 April 2023

4. Postdoctoral Position in Scientific Computing

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Ice sheets melt in contact with warm ocean water, which contributes to rising sea levels. The input of cold and fresh glacier water into the ocean also modifies ocean currents. The nonlinear feedback mechanisms in ice-ocean interaction are important to understand for reliable predictions of responses to climate change, but are also difficult to model. Simulations of the physical processes are sensitive to numerical approximation and discretisation techniques, are often subject to instabilities and set high demands on computing power.

This project aims to use and further develop modern methods from computational fluid dynamics for modeling of ice in contact with the ocean. The postdoctoral researcher will explore how level set and phase field method can be used to represent the ice/ocean boundary, as well as tools for turbulence modeling and non-Newtonian flow if of interest. Modern approaches and large-scale parallel simulations will be utilized.

Application Deadline: 31 March 2023

5. Postdoctoral Position in Microbial diversity and soil processes

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The position will be associated with one of the projects: Holistic management practices, modelling and monitoring for European forest soils, or Soil microbial responses to land use and climatic changes in the light of evolution. Both projects investigate how soil processes and biota drive the cycles of carbon and nutrients, using various modelling approaches (both process-based and empirical). In HoliSoils the aim is to link microbial diversity to soil functioning in forests, whereas in SMILE the aim is to develop and test models based on optimality theories. Collaborations with several partners across Europe in both HoliSoils and SMILE projects are envisioned, providing a unique opportunity for networking.

Application Deadline: 5 May 2023

6. Postdoctoral Position in Data Science

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The position is associated with the EFRA project on food safety with the main goal to deliver the first analytics-enabled, secure-by-design, green data space for AI-enabled food risk prevention. To this end it will utilize NLP, machine learning and explainable methods for knowledge discovery from heterogeneous data sources (including multilingual data). The intention is to build a novel data management and analytics framework, based on three pillars: (1) Data hub – searchable data integration of heterogeneous data, (2) Analytic tools – used together with the data hub to distill and combine useful insights regarding food safety from available data, and (3) Data and Analytics marketplace – a single resource for stakeholders in food safety to interact with both data and predictions methods for food safety.

7. Postdoctoral Position in Metal-Organic Frameworks for Water Treatment

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

This recruitment is connected to the Wallenberg Initiative Materials Science for Sustainability (WISE), wise-materials.org. WISE, funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation, is the largest-ever investment in materials science in Sweden and will encompass major efforts at Sweden’s foremost universities over the course of 10 years. The vision is a sustainable future through materials science.

All early-stage researchers recruited into the WISE program will be a part of the WISE Graduate School, an ambitious nationwide program of seminars, courses, research visits, and other activities to promote a strong multi-disciplinary and international network between PhD students, postdocs, researchers and industry.

Application Deadline: 22 March 2023

8. Postdoctoral Position in the Psychology

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The position is part of a research grant from the Swedish Foundation for the Humanities and Social Sciences to the research program”Knowledge resistance: Causes, consequences and cures”. The research program “Knowledge resistance: Causes, consequences and cures” aims to understand the nature of and mechanisms behind knowledge resistance, as well as finding ways to counter it. The program is interdisciplinary, bringing together researchers from psychology, philosophy, political science and media research. The current position will be based in psychology, but the research will be conducted in close contact with the other disciplines in the program. The research will be accomplished through a combination of experimental and field psychological studies with collection and analysis of quantitative behavioral data.

9. Postdoctoral Position in Isotope Studies of Greenhouse Gases over South Asia

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The postdoc will join a strong and long-standing research program focusing on the interlinkages between severe air pollution and climate change in South Asia. To reduce uncertainties, there is need for field-observation-based constraints. This project is focused on leveraging multi-isotope techniques (e.g., δ13C, δ2H, δ18O, Δ14C) to advance constraints on the sources and atmospheric fate of key target gases such as methane, carbon monoxide and others in the highly perturbed atmosphere of South Asia. The combination of strategically located regional source and receptor sites with advanced isotope techniques will allow detailed characterization of sources, atmospheric reactions and overall constraints of the lifecycle of these gases of large importance for the changing climate.

10. Postdoctoral Position in Ultrafast Dynamics in Quantum Materials

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

We seek a highly motivated researcher to conduct experimental research on structural and electronic processes occurring during extremely short time periods, down to the femtosecond time scale (10-15 s). In your research, you will be part of a reseach constellation investigating ultrafast transient states in quantum materials using for Sweden unique instrumentation for THz spectroscopy, ultrafast electron microscopy (UEM), and ultrafast electron diffraction. When merged these instruments facilitate microscopic studies with the capacity track the position of atoms with a time resolution of a few hundred femtoseconds, facilitating the recording of “movies” that follows the atomic motion while a material go through a change in state. Research topics of special interest include dynamics of charge density waves, electron-phonon and phonon-phonon dynamics, and photo driven phase transitions.
