The position is hosted by the Nano and Molecular Systems Research Unit (NANOMO) of University of Oulu. NANOMO focuses on molecular scale materials physics and novel applications of spectroscopic and imaging techniques. The research topics include electronic structure research in nanomaterials, functional materials (e.g. steel, carbon negative materials, and nanocatalysts), biomedical research, mesoscopic quantum structures in materials, and physics didactics. The Process Metallurgy Research Unit focuses on pyrometallurgical metal production and other high-temperature processes with the main emphasis on the production of iron, steel, and ferroalloys. Research is executed in close cooperation with the metallurgical industry. MET also has a wide national and international network with leading research institutes and universities working in the field of metallurgy and related disciplines. At the moment, the key areas of research are circular economy and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions in metal production by hydrogen reduction, electrified processes, and biofuels. 3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Population Health

Summary of PhD Program:

The doctoral researcher will work in a European TRIGGER project (SoluTions foR mItiGatinG climate-induced hEalth tReaths) studying the linkage between climate, ecosystems, and health. The TRIGGER consortium includes 22 partners from 15 European countries that will develop an outreaching clinical study composed by a multi-dimensional approach. As a doctoral researcher you will be involved in high quality international research together with multidisciplinary research consortium. Your research will focus on the association between climate change and health, particularly on cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. This position is a part of European Doctoral Training Network project CONTRABASS (DC Project 2 – “carbonation of magnesium silicates and synergy with calcium silicates”). Cement is one of the biggest polluters and responsible for 8% of all anthropogenic CO2 emissions. At the same time, cement offers an optimal carbon capture and storage (CCU) opportunity due to massive volumes and favourable chemistry. 8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Physical metallurgy and Modelling

Summary of PhD Program:

The doctoral researcher will join the Materials and Mechanical Engineering (MME) research unit to work mainly on experimentation, and characterization of steel microstructures after thermomechanical processes. Summary of PhD Program:

Your main duties will be resistive pulse measurements, analysis and automatic control of translocation of single biomolecules (DNA or protein) through solid-state nanopore devices for the single-molecule protein sequencing project. Fabrication and encapsulation of the nanopores will be handled by other group members. The aim is to combine electric control with Raman spectroscopy on plasmonic nanopores towards single-molecule Raman spectroscopic sequencing and analysis.
