National Jewish Health, Colorado, USA invites multiple online application for Postdoctoral Fellowships (salary: $54,835 – $65,598) in various research areas. Candidates interested in Postdoctoral Fellowships can check the details and may apply as soon as possible.

1. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Seibold Laboratory is a cutting-edge, NIH funded, laboratory focused on elucidating the pathobiological basis of asthma and other complex lung and allergic diseases. Our goal is to discover pathobiological subgroups of disease (termed disease endotypes) and the genetic, environmental, and immune factors driving their development.

We are accomplishing these goals through the integration of genomic endotyping studies of large patient cohorts with in vitro mechanistic studies of human organoid culture models. Ultimately, we will leverage the information gained from our research to develop precision medicine approaches for the diagnosis, management, and treatment of these diseases. The Seibold Laboratory is composed of a multi-disciplinary team of “wet lab” cell, airway, and molecular biologists integrated with “dry lab” computational biologists, bioinformaticians, and statistical geneticists.

3. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Numata-Nakamura Lab at National Jewish Health is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team. Our lab is studying innate immunity of the lung, focusing on anti-viral effects of pulmonary surfactant phospholipids against respiratory viruses (e.g., Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), Influenza A, Rhinovirus and SARS-CoV-2) using primary human airway epithelial cells and immune cells.

Techniques used in the lab include, human primary cell cultures maintained in air-liquid interface cultures, fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, ELISA, molecular biology (DNA/RNA isolation, PCR), viral replication to make recombinant viruses and in vivo animal models. Training on specific techniques used in the laboratory will be provided. Significant experience with bacterial culture and molecular biology and/or mammalian cells is strongly preferred.

While prior experience is not required for this position, candidates who have been exposed to basic research methods and show enthusiasm for basic science research are strongly preferred. The work performed will be under the supervision of Dr. Numata-Nakamura, or other senior personnel. The ideal candidate should demonstrate attention to detail and be organized, responsible, and a good communicator. Additional tasks will include general laboratory maintenance and operations. A cover letter is required for review of the application.

5. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Dooms laboratory in the Department of Immunology and Genomic Medicine at National Jewish Health, Denver, Colorado is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and skilled Postdoctoral Research Fellow to study the role of T cells in autoimmune diseases.

Our laboratory is interested in understanding how T cells become dysregulated and cause autoimmunity. We are specifically investigating how T cell exhaustion, caused by chronic antigen exposure, may play protective or pathogenic roles in autoimmune diseases, and how this mechanism can be exploited for therapeutic intervention. We are currently using samples from Systemic Sclerosis patients and the NOD mouse model of Type 1 Diabetes to answer these questions.

6. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Our lab studies host-pathogen interactions with the goal of defining host and bacterial pathways involved in bacterial persistence. Bacterial interactions with the host involve dynamic exchanges where heterogeneity from both sides can lead to many different outcomes. Persistence occurs when the pathogen evades the host immune response and the host is unable to clear the invading pathogen, resulting in stable bacterial colonization.

Individuals with persistent infections often do not respond to long-term or repeated appropriate antibiotic treatment and, importantly, serve as reservoirs for the development of antibiotic resistance. We do not understand why certain infections progress to persistence while others do not. Moreover, the host pathways that lead to persistence have remained an underexplored area of investigation. We hypothesize that bacterial persistence within a host is the result of a complex interplay of specific host and pathogen molecular pathways and that understanding these pathways will allow harnessing host immunity to shift the balance from persistence to clearance of infections.

Our lab will utilize transcriptional analysis at the single cell level and functional perturbations of both the host and the pathogen to understand how persistence is established and maintained. Our lab uses in vitro and in vivo murine and human models of Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection of epithelial cells.

7. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The lab studies maternal effects on the immune system and development of allergic diseases, with a major focus on asthma (lab). A proportion of patients with asthma develop symptoms of their disease very early in life, sometimes in the 1st year. Genetic factors are contributory, but fail to fully explain why. It is therefore increasingly recognized that development of early-life asthma is dependent in substantial part on environmental exposures that are encountered by infants after birth and exposures and health status of their mothers during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Dr. Gorska’s lab is focused on maternal factors, trying to delineate the mechanisms underlying their effects in offspring.
