The Corn & Soybean Virus Lab in Wooster, Ohio is seeking a motivated postdoctoral research scholar to work with the Chair of the Department of Plant Pathology, Dr. Peirce Paul, on projects related to virus transmission through seed. This stakeholder-driven research focuses on two viruses affecting sweet corn seed export: High Plains wheat mosaic virus (HPWMoV) and wheat streak mosaic virus (WSMV). The scope of the project is broad with opportunities for the research associate to lead and collaborate on projects investigating co-infection and synergy between the two viruses, performing genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to identify virus resistance genes, and/or examining virus localization in infected seeds using microscopy.
