1. Fully Funded PhD Position in polymer materials

Summary of PhD Program:

In direct collaboration with an industrial partner, the goal is to develop an innovative, highly filled resin system for the DLP 3D printing process, aiming to produce high-quality components for use in medical technology, measurement and laboratory devices, the electronics industry, and high-temperature applications. The objective is to address process- and material-related challenges by optimizing the properties of resin systems and adjusting process parameters for efficient DLP processing. The work focuses on understanding the interactions between fillers and the resin matrix to enhance the mechanical properties and processability of the end products.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in fiber-reinforced composites

Summary of PhD Program:

Within a broad project consortium covering the entire value chain, the goal is to optimize sustainability and resource efficiency. This optimization spans from the selection and composition of the carrier material, extends through the manufacturing and assembly of the circuit board, to the integration into the electronic product, and its recycling at the end of the product’s life cycle.

In the specific subproject to be addressed, bio-based or recyclable composite materials for circuit board substrate materials are to be produced and characterized. The focus lies on the recyclability and ecological assessment of the materials, as well as on the thermo-mechanical, dielectric, and fire protection properties, taking into account the structure-property relationships of the utilized resin systems, additives, and fiber reinforcement.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in fundamental turbulence research

Summary of PhD Program:

Turbulence is ubiquitous in nature and technology. Yet, developing theories of turbulence, which ultimately all modeling applications rely on, remains an outstanding scientific challenge. The goal of the EU-funded project UniTED is to combine theory and new computational approaches to tackle this long-standing problem and enhance our fundamental understanding of highly turbulent flows.

We are looking for excellent, highly motivated early-career researchers to join our research team. The ideal candidate should have a master’s (doctoral) degree in physics with a background in complex systems, fluid dynamics and statistical physics. Programming skills as well as experience in the numerical simulation of nonlinear partial differential equations are a requirement. Fluency in English is expected.

4. 02 Fully Funded PhD Position in Software Engineering

Summary of PhD Program:

Prof. Dr. Sebastian Baltes recently joined the University of Bayreuth and is building up a new research group focusing on empirical software engineering. We tackle problems rooted in software practitioners’ actual needs, which we identify systematically using empirical research methods. Our projects usually combine foundational and applied research and are published in leading software engineering venues.

Your tasks:

  • Research within the group’s research area with the possibility to shape your own research agenda towards a PhD, writing scientific articles, and presenting your results at international conferences.
  • Supporting the group’s teaching offerings by, e.g., coordinating assignments for lectures, organizing seminars, and co-supervising thesis projects.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in in micrometeorology on land surface-air interaction processes

Summary of PhD Program:

The scientific project investigates the impact of land surface heterogeneity onto the near-surface turbulence and transport at the field scale and is funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The experiments will be conducted across two agricultural patches with contrasting crop properties using state-of-the-art fiber-optic distributed sensing techniques for measuring spatially resolved air and soil temperatures, airflow, and soil moisture. The project is part of the research group Land-Atmosphere-Feedback-Initiative and encourages interactions and collaborations with several other state-of-the-art experimental and modeling techniques.
