1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Political Science with orientation towards Environmental Politics

Summary of PhD Program:

The aim of the doctoral programme is to give the student specialised knowledge within the field of political science, a thorough training in research methods, and a good understanding of the problems occurring in research and in the practical application of results. The programme familiarises the student with different structures of society and ideas, and gives a broad orientation of the research development within the subject, with the purpose of making the student a critical and independent researcher with the ability to plan and develop scientific projects. There are two main blocks in the programme: course work (75 credits) and work in connection with the Ph.D. dissertation (165 credits).

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Bumblebee Genomics

Summary of PhD Program:

The Department of Zoology invites applications for a four-year PhD position based at the Centre for Palaeogenetics in Stockholm. The project is aimed at investigating temporal patterns of population structure, genomic diversity, and introgression in bumblebees. The analyses will use state-of-the-art genomic and palaeogenomic methods with focus on recovering DNA from museum specimens collected throughout the last 200 years. This will be a conservation genomics project part of a research programme funded by FORMAS (a Swedish gubernamental research council for sustainable development) focused on investigating genomic introgression from commercial bumblebees into wild populations.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Criminology

Summary of PhD Program:

In order to meet the general entry requirements, the applicant must have completed a second-cycle degree, completed courses equivalent to at least 240 higher education credits, of which 60 credits must be in the second cycle, or have otherwise acquired equivalent knowledge in Sweden or elsewhere. In order to meet the specific entry requirements, for doctoral studies in Criminology you need a Bachelor´s degree (preferably in Criminology or other social sciences) and at least 60 ECTS credits at advanced level (a part of those should include a thesis). In the syllabus for doctoral studies in Criminology you will find the requirements described in detail.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Molecular Biosciences

Summary of PhD Program:

This Ph.D. student position is available in the laboratory headed by Professor Anna-Lena Spetz. The project addresses molecular mechanisms coupled to immunomodulatory functions of a set of oligonucleotides acting in the extracellular space. We are exploring basic mechanisms regarding a group of small non-coding oligonucleotides and their therapeutic potential. We have discovered that a set of single-stranded oligonucleotides temporarily inhibit certain endocytic pathways and thereby modulate innate immune responses.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography focusing on Biogenic Aerosol Particles

Summary of PhD Program:

We are looking for a PhD student to work on a project funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation called Feedbacks between a changing climate and vegetation: The role of volatile organic compounds and biogenic aerosols (CLIVE). The project will study the small fraction of atmospheric carbon that is taken up by plants and released back into the atmosphere as volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It is a small fraction but it can have a big impact on climate as the VOCs are precursors for atmospheric organic aerosols. The overall aim of the project is to better quantify the current and future climate impact of forests via VOC emissions and their interactions with clouds, aerosols, and related feedbacks. We also aim for an improved understanding of the connections between VOC emissions, their composition and plant physiology and evapotranspiration.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Environmental Science focusing on nontarget mass spectrometry

Summary of PhD Program:

This doctoral project involves application of nontarget mass spectrometry to novel passive air samplers deployed globally, including in the largest megacities of all continents, and in the most remote locations of the Arctic. The purpose is to demonstrate an airborne global early warning system for persistent mobile organic contaminants (ALARM project, funded by FORMAS).

Application Deadline: 18 August 2023

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Organic Chemistry

Summary of PhD Program:

A PhD position is offered in the group of Prof. M. Rivero-Crespo at Stockholm University. The candidate will work on the synthesis of porous materials that will be tailored with catalytically active sites of different nature and used as heterogeneous catalysts for organic reactions. This project is highly interdisciplinary combining organic chemistry, materials science and catalysis. Sustainability will be one of the main pillars of the project. In that context, the main goal is to develop sustainable chemical processes by synthesizing more efficient heterogeneous catalysts and minimizing byproduct formation, in turn reducing the environmental impact of the production of chemicals. Moreover, the sustainability of the new process will be assessed by different metrics.
