Are you holding Master’s degree and looking for fully funded PhD positions? Aalborg University, Denmark invites online application for multiple funded PhD Programs / fully funded PhD positions in various research areas.

Candidates interested in fully funded PhD positions can check the details and may apply as soon as possible. Interested and eligible applicants may submit their online application for PhD programs via the University’s Online Application Portal.

1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Neuroplasticity and Pain

Summary of PhD Program:

This project includes the exploration of excitability and connectivity changes in people with chronic pain using transcranial magnetic stimulation coupled with concomitant EEG recording. TMS-EEG allows for the measurement of connectivity, network characterization and oscillation pattern assessment caused by probing single pulses of TMS delivered to pain-relevant cortical hubs. Such original neurophysiologic exploration and profiling in patients with chronic pain will provide valuable insights into pain mechanisms and improve individualized pain treatments in the near future, using non-invasive read-outs of each individual brain states.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Acoustic Signal Processing and Deep Learning

Summary of PhD Program:

A fully funded PhD stipend is available in the Centre for Acoustic Signal Processing Research (CASPR). CASPR is anchored in the Section for Artificial Intelligence and Sound (AIS), Department of Electronic Systems, Aalborg University, Denmark. CASPR performs research and education in advanced signal processing for hearing assistive devices including hearing aids, headphones, and headsets.

Our goal in the PhD project is to explore and design algorithms which process noisy speech in order to increase speech intelligibility, sound quality, and listening comfort in a hearing assistive device context. More specifically, we envisage a project which in the first stages relies on “classical” statistical signal (speech) processing techniques, and in later stages explores deep learning techniques, potentially generative models and novel learning paradigms including self-supervised learning. In contrast to much existing work, specific focus will be directed towards algorithms which – rather than simply suppressing the background noise – modifies the target speech signal in order to make it easier intelligible.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Materials and Production

Summary of PhD Program:

The PhD project is a part of the project NextGenBlade – Damage-Tolerant Designs for Long Term Endurance of Next-Generation Wind Turbine Blades, which is funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark as a Sapere Aude project. The main workforce in the project consists of three people, of which there is an open full-time PhD position and an open postdoc position. The project leader of NextGenBlade and main supervisor of this PhD project is Associate Professor Brian Lau Verndal Bak.

The overall topic of the NextGenBlade is about developing a strong and fatigue-resistant adhesive assembly concept that enables an efficient manufacturing process of wind turbine blades and other large composite structures. The concept is based on a damage-tolerant concept with designed extrinsic toughening mechanisms. We will cover design, modelling, and experimental characterization of the adhesive joint in the project.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in engineering

Summary of PhD Program:

The PhD work will focus on the analysis and smart testing of power electronic components and systems based on complex mission profiles of their reliability. That involves data analysis, reliability modelling and analysis, robustness validation as well as mission-profile-based accelerated testing. Experimental experience will be an advantage.

The applicant must provide and upload a proper project description, which describes the applicant’s initial thoughts and ideas related to the specific project applied for. This includes a brief state-of-the-art (including short list of references), a time schedule and how the applicant intends to shed light on the project objectives. The project description should have a length of 4-5 pages.
