Summary of PhD Program:

The EU-funded research project EU-CoWork focuses on the development of workplace support for employees experiencing difficult life events related to serious illness, caregiving, dying and death, and on how the conditions for this support can be understood in relation to work organizations and workplace cultures characterized by digitalization and green transition. An important part of your work in the project is to develop and analyze Compassionate Workplaces programs based on co-creative research methods in collaboration with a number of workplaces in northern Sweden.

The project involves collaboration with researchers from Belgium, Greece and Austria who are conducting similar studies in their respective countries. As part of the Swedish working group in the above-mentioned project, you will be part of an interdisciplinary research environment and work at the Division of Human and Technology and the research subject Human Work Science.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Engineering Materials with the specialization life cycle assessment

Summary of PhD Program:

The project Green steel for a fossil free future, is an interdisciplinary research project funded by the Just Transition Fund and the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth. The project contributes to the green transition and a carbon dioxide-neutral steel industry through research efforts in collaboration between Luleå University of Technology and Royal Institute of Technology.

The research activities are focused on both the process chain downstream from steelmaking and deal with fossil-free steel properties and performance, as well as fossil-free steelmaking with a focus on using hydrogen and new alloying elements. As a doctoral student in the Green steel for a fossil free future project, you will work in an interdisciplinary research environment, in close collaboration with research institutes and industry, and contribute to the steel industry’s transition towards carbon neutrality.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence

Summary of PhD Program:

The vision of RAI is aiming in closing the gap from theory to real life, while the team has a strong expertise in field robotics. Specific application areas of focus are robotics for mines, aerial inspection of aging infrastructure, multi-robotic search and rescue, multi sensorial fusion and multirobot coordination, including multirobot perception, decentralization and mission execution. The RAI team has a strong European participation in multiple R&D&I projects, while RAI is also participating in the DARPA SUB-T challenge with the CoSTAR Team lead by NASA/JPL.

As a PhD student you will perform research with substantial theoretical and experimental components that should be published in peer-reviewed major international journals and at major conferences. The position will include supervision of MSc and to assist in grant applications from research funding agencies/councils, the EU framework program or the industry. The position might also involve teaching assistance, seminars and presentations. You will be working in the field of aerial robotics and their activities will be linked with National, European and worldwide R&D Projects.

More specifically, the position will involve dense research activities in the area of designing, experimenting and theoretical control development in the following research areas:

Generative AI (GAI) interfaces for intelligent high-level decision making in Robotics
-GAI-guided mission planning and online decision making in complex environments
-Efficient and robust translation between GAI and robots with reliable two-way interfaces
-Dynamics-aware mission planning and execution with multi-modal sensor data
