Summary of PhD Program:

As a PhD candidate you will be responsible for one of the subprojects, more specifically, for a subproject that considers how ideas and notions of social hierarchy are transmitted, appropriated, altered, and promoted through clusters of authoritative statements in canonical collections. Your PhD research, which is to result in a dissertation, charts notions of social hierarchy and stratification in canonical compilations throughout the early and high Middle Ages. It represents a novel approach to the genre of canon law and directly contributes to the relevance of canonical sources and studies for the wider historical academic community.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Quantitative Visual Cognitive Neuroscience

Summary of PhD Program:

Studying such questions requires taking visual cognitive neuroscience beyond its traditional paradigms of having people fixate on computer screens and presenting visual information rather passively. This is challenging, yet two recent developments offer a promising way forward: Rapid Invisible Frequency Tagging (RIFT) in magneto-encephalography (MEG) recordings, and deep learning models from Artificial Intelligence (AI) in quantifying visual information. You will be involved in advancing the state of the art in these techniques (especially RIFT), and combining them to yield novel scientific insights.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Culture & History

Summary of PhD Program:

As a PhD candidate at RICH, you will be part of the Graduate School for the Humanities. Up to 75% of your time will be devoted to the research for and writing of your PhD thesis. The remaining 25% will be spent on training and academic service to the Faculty of Arts, including teaching. Your thesis topic and research question should align with the research themes of RICH.
