5. Fully Funded PhD Position in modelling & optimising highly efficient drive systems for E-vehicles based on GaN devices
Summary of PhD Program:
We are seeking individuals with outstanding academic credentials and a high level of motivation to engage in doctoral research on the development of highly efficient future drive systems for electric vehicles with a battery system voltage exceeding 1 kV. In order to achieve high efficiency across a wide operating range, it is necessary to evaluate, model and optimise different four-level inverter topologies and suitable modulation schemes for drive systems. It is crucial to consider a wide operating range, given that the inverter is directly connected to the medium-voltage battery, which has a wide voltage range depending on the state of charge.

13. Fully Funded PhD Position in Karma economies
Summary of PhD Program:
The problem of repeated resource allocation in a competitive setting, when agents have private and time-varying need for the resource, can be described as a population game endowed with Markovian dynamics. This formalism is practical for analyzing the agents’ rational behavior and for designing mechanisms that ensure efficient resource allocation. One such mechanism is the “karma game,” where an agent-by-agent karma counter guarantees bookkeeping of the resource allocation and allows agents to strategically disclose their preference with their bids but without any truthfulness assumption.

15. Fully Funded PhD Position in Reality Capture for Real Estate Valuation
Summary of PhD Program:
The doctoral project at ETH Zurich (research project 5a) is part of the response to the fifth objective, ‘Digital expansion of valuation’. The project will explore potential mechanisms for enabling the paradigm shift in real estate valuation. The lack of information on the existing building stock is notoriously a source of uncertainty in valuation methods. In addition, large-scale circular practices in construction require an efficient flow of information that is often not yet available. Thus, the digital transformation of the built environment opens up new perspectives for real estate valuation in the CE.

16. Fully Funded PhD Position in building history/building research (timber construction/roofing)
Summary of PhD Program:
One of the most fundamental goals of every building project is to create a “roof over your head”. The larger the space to be covered without supports and the flatter the roof pitch, the more difficult this task becomes. From the 12th century to the present day, craftsmen, architects and engineers have developed a wide variety of solutions for this, which have often remained almost untouched. The oldest surviving roof structures in Central Europe date back to the 11th century. The surviving historical roof structures are a central subject of research in the history of building and construction.
