12. Postdoctoral Training Opportunity – Mitochondrial Metabolism and Lung Stem Cells
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
Postdoctoral and Research Scientist positions are available in the Han Lab in The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago IL. The Han Lab studies the mechanisms of how lung epithelial cells repair after injury and how aberrant repair occurs resulting in fibrosis. We are particularly interested in mitochondrial metabolism and how cellular metabolism affects lung epithelial stem cell function and fate, in the context of lung development and lung repair after injury. We are also interested in how lung epithelial stem cells interact with other cell types, such as immune cells and mesenchymal cells, during repair after lung injury and the development of pulmonary fibrosis. We apply a multidisciplinary strategy using elaborately designed genetic knock-out and knock-in mouse systems, in vitro organoid models, RNA-sequencing and metabolomics. The research projects are funded by grants from the NIH and private foundations.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
A postdoctoral researcher position is available in the Sosa-Pineda Laboratory at the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University. This position will investigate the role of the lymphatic vasculature in pancreatitis. The study will use mouse models of acute and chronic pancreatitis, 3D imaging, and state-of-the-art techniques. Pancreatitis is the leading cause of gastrointestinal disease-related hospital admissions and carries substantial socioeconomic burden. Acinar cell injury and destruction are initial events in pancreatitis. Acute pancreatitis is characterized by transient local inflammation and tissue damage resolution. This process entails noticeable changes in the lymphatic vasculature.
