1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Human Geography
Summary of PhD Program:
The PhD project is integrated into the interdisciplinary research project ‘People’s Place in Nature’, in which we study how people in different contexts relate to nature and value nature in their personal human-nature relationships. In the philosophical part of the project, we draw on the empirical insights to develop ethical arguments in favor of considerate approaches to nature. The notion of ‘relational value’ as the value ascribed to nature in relationships, plays a central role in this research.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in neuroimaging of lower urinary tract function
Summary of PhD Program:
The Department of Neuro-Urology at the Spinal Cord Injury Center, University of Zurich and Balgrist University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland, is offering a PhD positions for a highly motivated and scientifically interested PhD candidate to conduct clinical research joining neuroimaging with neuro-urology in humans. This position is embedded in an interdisciplinary research environment team of health care professionals, neuroscientists, physicists, biologists, human movement scientists, pharmacologists, and engineers. You will be involved in a nation-wide randomized, sham-controlled, double-blind clinical trial investigating transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation in patients with acute spinal cord injury to prevent neurogenic detrusor overactivity (SNF Project, supported by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the Swiss Paraplegics Foundation (SPS).
Application Deadline: Open until filled
6. 03 Fully Funded PhD Position in Chemical Protein Synthesis
Summary of PhD Program:
This interdisciplinary project combines a variety of disciplines and tools in the broader field of chemical protein synthesis and chemical biology. You will design, synthesize and modify MYC derivatives using our state-of-the-art fully automated synthesis platform and ligation technologies. You will be driving the characterization of chemically synthesized proteins using various analytical techniques (UHPLC, LCMS, NMR, CD, etc.). To elucidate their biological role and function, you will work with biochemical, biophysical, and cellular assays to analyze and quantify the binding interactions between the oncoprotein MYC (and derivatives thereof) and its binding partner(s).
Application Deadline: Open until filled
7. Fully Funded PhD Position in protein (bio)chemistry & NMR spectroscopy
Summary of PhD Program:
A PhD student position is available in the group of Oliver Zerbe at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Zurich. The project is a collaborative effort with the group of Nina Hartrampf (UZH) and Linda Penn (University of Toronto) as part of a four-year funded SINERGIA grant on Myc biology. Myc is an important, much studied oncogene. Here we are investigating how Myc-phosphorylations will influence binding of Myc to its interactors. To this end fragments of Myc containing specific Phosphoserines or Phosphotyrosines are made by automated flow protein synthesis in the Hartrampf group. The Zerbe group will recombinantly produce complementary fragments of Myc and ligate them to the synthetic fragments. Activity assays are then performed in either the Hartrampf or Penn labs.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Remote Sensing of River Sediment Dynamics
Summary of PhD Program:
We are looking for a highly motivated, creative, solution-focused and independent person with a passion for remote sensing technology and aquatic research. The successful candidate will develop remote sensing methods to assess sediment transport in the Mekong and the Red River delta and will investigate how sediment dynamics are influenced by natural and anthropogenic drivers and how sediments affect the water balance of both deltas. The collection of multi- and hyperspectral satellite data and in situ measurements from local partners or during field campaigns is an important task.
Application Deadline: Open until filled
9. Fully Funded PhD Position in theoretical chemistry
Summary of PhD Program:
The PhD project will deal with development and application of novel, accurate approaches for the study of functional compounds. A possible direction of the project is the development of advanced dynamic approaches for detailed and realistic study of reaction mechanisms and reaction networks considering in a sophisticated manner environmental effects (also under catalytic conditions). This can include the development of advanced enhanced sampling approaches and embedding techniques for highly accurate description beyond the DFT level / at catalytic conditions (possibly also combined with machine learning). Additionally, the project(s) may be carried out in close collaboration with experimental or other computational groups.
