21. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The postdoctoral research fellow will join a collaborative, interdisciplinary, NSF-funded project examining epistemic exclusion, a form of scholarly devaluation that occurs when disciplinary biases defining what scholarship is valued are coupled with negative stereotypes about marginalized groups (e.g., women, people of color) to produce inequality in evaluation processes (e.g., annual review). The project has two primary research activities to be conducted over 4 years (Fall 2023 – Summer 2027). Study 1 involves surveying 1800 tenure-track STEM faculty at U.S. R1 and R2 universities nationally to examine the relationship between epistemic exclusion and career outcomes. Study 2 involves conducting 12 focus groups with a subsample of Study 1 participants to explore how epistemic exclusion is uniquely experienced, understood, and impactful by career stage (early, mid, senior) and strategies faculty use to mitigate its effect on careers outcomes.
