16. Post Doctoral Researcher, Physics and Astronomy
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
Radio detection of cosmic-ray air showers has made significant progress in the last years. Radio antennas can maximize the accuracy for the properties of the primary cosmic-ray particles when combined with arrays of particle detectors, in particular muon detectors. Since 2020 a prototype station of the IceCube-Gen2 surface array comprised of scintillators and antennas is operating at the South Pole, which has recently been upgraded to a newer data-acquisition electronics. IceCube(-Gen2) with its enhanced surface array will bear discovery potential for the yet unknown sources of the most energetic Galactic cosmic rays. As first step, a radio and scintillator enhancement of the existing IceTop array is planned. This year, other prototype stations of the same type will be installed at the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina as well as at the University of Delaware for developments and tests.
