University of Washington, Washington, USA invites multiple online application for Postdoctoral Fellowships in various research areas. Candidates interested in Postdoctoral Fellowships can check the details and may apply as soon as possible.
1. Postdoctoral Position in Hydrology, Flow, Flexure, and Fracture
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Environmental Geophysics and Computation Group at the University of Washington seeks a Postdoctoral Scholar who will work on the recently funded NSF Project “Improving model representations of Antarctic ice-shelf instability and break-up due to surface meltwater processes”. This project involves collaborative research between Alison Banwell (Boulder), Doug MacAyeal (U. Chicago), Joshua Cuzzone (UCLA), Nicole Schlegel (JPL), and Brad Lipovsky (main supervisor of the Postdoctoral Scholar at UW). The preferred start date is January 3, 2022.
The ideal candidate will build a coupled process-scale model of ice shelf hydrology, flow, flexure, and fracture (H3F) using an open source finite element library such as FEniCSx, FireDrake, deal.II, MOOSE, etc. Modern methods will be used to describe pervasively fractured media. The candidate will then incorporate this model into the Ice Sheet System Model (ISSM) using machine learning (statistical emulation) methods. This work will be carried out in an Open Science environment that leans heavily on open source software and workflow reproducibility in a version-controlled setting.

3. Postdoctoral Position in Tuberculosis Immunology
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Shah Lab is hiring enthusiastic postdoctoral fellows to study host immune responses to tuberculosis in our lab. We are interested in understanding the mechanisms of immunopathology and protection to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection. We combine observations made in human populations using genetic or transcriptional approaches with detailed mechanistic studies in small animal models. A major focus of the lab is the relationship between the integrated stress response, a cellular adaptation to harsh environmental conditions, and TB immune pathology and spread.

5. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
We are applying advanced methods in live microscopy and cell biology to primary human keratinocytes and an organotypic model of the epidermis. Our goals are to better understand the mechanisms of epidermal differentiation, to model genetic skin disorders in vitro, and to identify novel treatment approaches for dermatologic diseases, especially rare skin disorders lacking effective therapies. Our lab occupies remodeled space on the new UW Medicine research campus located in the vibrant South Lake Union neighborhood of Seattle.
The Simpson Lab has a dedicated spinning-disk confocal microscope, which permits us to image live 3-D epidermal cultures at high resolution and offers a laser photo-activation module for novel optogenetic approaches. We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow with experience and interest in live microscopy and image quantification methods to help us understand how organelle degradation and calcium dynamics drive keratinocyte differentiation and how they are altered in diseases compromising the epidermal barrier.

6. Postdoctoral Position in Genetic Medicine
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
The Miller laboratory at the University of Washington has an opening for a full-time postdoctoral scholar position focused on using long-read sequencing (LRS) to identify missing disease-causing variation, evaluate normal patterns of human variation, and develop new tools for the analysis of LRS data. The Miller lab is focused on using new technology, such as long-read DNA and RNA sequencing to identify missing disease-causing variation, identify novel variants that contribute to disease, and make new gene-phenotype associations. For details see the laboratory website at www.millerlaboratory.com.
The position is flexible in that projects can be tailored to fit the long-term interests of the individual. The position will be mostly computational, with opportunities for bench work as desired by the individual filling the role. In general, the position will lead analysis of LRS data generated from unsolved clinical samples recruited to a research protocol, from control samples that promote the development of LRS-based clinical tests, and use LRS data to identify patterns of normal human variation.

9. Postdoctoral Position in Electrochemical Carbon Dioxide Removal
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
CICOES has an outstanding opportunity for a postdoctoral scholar to conduct research at the intersection of marine carbon dioxide removal, ocean acidification, and ocean carbonate chemistry modeling. Dr. Brendan Carter and other CICOES scientists will provide guidance to enhance the professional skills and research independence of the Scholar. The Scholar will also be mentored by PMEL scientist and UW affiliate professor Dr. Richard Feely.
Beginning in late 2022, UW will team up with Stonybrook University to assess the potential for mitigating ocean acidification and enhancing ocean carbon sequestration by removing strong acids from seawater using electrodialysis. The research performed by this postdoctoral scholar will involve modeling conditions within a chemically-monitored experimental test tank, and modeling a range of spatial scales around hypothetical environmental implementations for the technology.

10. Postdoctoral Position
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Climate change is causing rapid change in ecosystem function in many marine systems, impacting food security and sustainability. Climate impacts result in changing abundance and productivity for key primary consumers: copepods and euphausiids. Regional Ocean Modelling System (ROMS) forecasts are available for these taxa in the eastern Bering Sea, but have not been extensively compared with thirty years of spring and fall field-sampling.
This project will link ROMS and field sampling via statistical validation and developing a species distribution model for secondary producers in the eastern Bering Sea, and thereby enable climate impacts forecast for these species. This postdoctoral researcher will work with a multi-disciplinary research team that includes UW and NOAA scientists with expertise in zooplankton ecology, ROMS modelling, and statistical analysis of ecological data.
