1. Funded PhD Position in Behaviour, Physiology, and Ecology of Antimicrobial Resistance in wild Baboons
Summary of PhD Position:
The expansion of human activities brings wildlife closer to people, leading to transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) at the human–wildlife interface. This is problematic because AMR compromises both animal and public health, with various knock-on effects on the wider ecosystem. Research into AMR in this context is challenging as it requires high-resolution data on spatial and social behaviour combined with frequent physiological and environmental sampling. As highly adaptable generalists and social primates, chacma baboons (Papio ursinus) offer a striking model system – they forage in croplands, plantations, and urban areas.
Application Deadline: 3 December 2025
2. Funded PhD Position in Bioengineering the seagrass microbiome to enhance plant health and resilience
Summary of PhD Position:
In this project the student will develop a mechanistic framework to better understand the anthropogenic impacts of pesticides and habitat loss on bee-plant interactions across spatial scales. The project will bring together empirical data analysis, experiments, and development of ecological theory to provide a holistic view of pollinator systems under human disturbance.
Application Deadline: 3 December 2025

3. Funded PhD Position in Digital approaches to nonlinear structural dynamic modelling
Summary of PhD Position:
Identifying and validating models for complex structures featuring nonlinearity remains a cutting-edge challenge in structural dynamics, with applications spanning civil structures, microelectronics, and space hardware. This PhD research aims to develop a comprehensive Mode Selection Framework for Reduced Order Modelling (ROM) in Structural Dynamics—using machine learning to build robust, interpretable models from experimental and operational data.
Application Deadline: 3 December 2025
4. Funded PhD Position in Race strategy in professional cycling
Summary of PhD Position:
The main goal of this project is to establish a strong evidence base on professional cycling road racing trends and identify the key tactical moments that determine race outcomes. This evidence will inform future race strategies and real-time decision-making. Many factors influence professional road cycling strategies and tactics, and these have evolved significantly since the COVID-19 pandemic. Influencing factors include course design, environmental conditions, peloton strength, team strategy interactions, rider skills, and physiological capabilities during critical race moments. These elements are highly dynamic and interact to shape racing tactics and trends.
