1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Physics with specialization in experimental particle physics

Summary of PhD Program:

One exciting milestone for LDMX is a beam test at SLAC in the autumn of 2025, for the first time collecting data at the actual beam line for LDMX, which will be operated parasitically to the photon science conducted with LCLS-II. In addition, we plan to collect cosmics data with a prototype of the hadronic calorimeter. During the first 1-2 years, roughly, this project will be focused on the gathering and, in particular, on the analysis of these test measurements and on publishing the results.

2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Architecture leading to a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Fine Arts

Summary of PhD Program:

Many contemporary challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss or social and environmental justice are complex and dynamic with inherent conflicts between different perspectives and stakeholders – human as well as other life forms. This requires new ways of registering, reflecting, and communicating specific contextual problems and processes in the multiple scales that encompass the urban. At the same time, we experience how well-known concepts and long-established dichotomies – such as urban/rural, nature/culture, private/public, and real/virtual – dissolve, and thus evolve into new spatial constructs and hybrid environments.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Infection Medicine Research Group

Summary of PhD Program:

The research group led by Professor Johan Malmström develops techniques in quantitative and structural mass spectrometry to analyze protective antibody repertoires at high resolution. This detailed information on protective antibody responses is subsequently used to structurally characterize conserved epitopes and to facilitate the design of multivalent nanoparticle vaccines. The team was recently awarded an ERC Advanced Grant to determine the optimal combination of epitopes that elicits the highest level of protection.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Biology with a focus on Molecular Microbiology

Summary of PhD Program:

Molecular microbiology is a field of science that focuses on understanding how microorganisms such as bacteria and their viruses function at a molecular level. Biofilms, the most common way bacteria grow in nature, are complex 3D communities. They can consist of one or more bacterial strains, all enclosed in a protective, self-produced extracellular matrix. The research project aims to understand how bacteria form biofilms and how these structures increase their resistance to adverse environmental conditions. In natural ecosystems, adaptation to stress is crucial for survival.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in microbial resource limitation and element cycling in soils

Summary of PhD Program:

Soil microorganisms play a fundamental role in global biogeochemical cycles, shaping life on Earth and influencing climate change. Through the decomposition of organic matter, they regulate the balance between carbon stored in soils and carbon released into the atmosphere as CO2. Additionally, they drive nutrient cycling, determining the availability of essential elements for plants and crops, and also contributing to environmental challenges related to nutrient leaching.
