Are you holding Master’s degree and looking for fully funded PhD positions? University of Leicester, Leicester, England invites online application for multiple funded PhD Programs / fully funded PhD positions in various research areas.
Candidates interested in fully funded PhD positions can check the details and may apply as soon as possible. Interested and eligible applicants may submit their online application for PhD programs via the University’s Online Application Portal.
1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Development of multi-modality learning techniques for early chemical anomaly detection
Summary of PhD Program:
Breathomics has recently become a popular research area, where tiny chemical molecules in the air that people breathe out can be measured and quantified. These molecules can be considered as fingerprints of what happens inside the human body or in the environment. By analysing the changes in our breath, breathomics can help us to predict human diseases or environmental changes early, and convince healthcare or governmental agencies to deploy early intervention to prevent the occurrence of worse scenarios.
Application Deadline: 31 July 2025
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Molecular and Cell Biology
Summary of PhD Program:
One PhD scholarship is available to a student recruited to the University of Leicester MSc Cancer Cell and Molecular Biology or MSc Molecular Genetics in January 2025. The PhD scholarship will be available from January 2026 on completion of the MSc course and consist of a full stipend (currently £19,237 per year) for 3.5 yrs, research costs and a travel and training fund. It will attract a home fee waiver, with a full international fee waiver available competitively.
Application Deadline: Open until filled

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in A multimodal fine-funded foundation model to support precision medicine of mesothelioma
Summary of PhD Program:
Mesothelioma is a lethal cancer caused by asbestos, with less than 10% surviving more than 5 years. Precision medicine although feasible [1], is in its infancy [2]. New approaches to personalise therapy are needed to ensure patients acquire the best chance of clinical benefit, avoiding futile and potentially toxic therapy. Identifying patients who are likely to respond to a given treatment is challenging, often requiring complex multiomic interrogation. A foundation model (FM) is a large scale machine learning model, trained on vast and diverse datasets, that can be adapted to conduct specialised tasks through fine tuning using multimodal data, including the possibility of robust prediction of drug response from routine haematoxylin and eosin (H&E) slides used in routine diagnosis.
Application Deadline: 20 July 2025
4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Telomere length and vascular disease, investigating the role of gene expression through Machine Learning
Summary of PhD Program:
Telomeres are protein bound tandem hexamer DNA repeats which are protective structures at the end of chromosomes. The length of the telomere sequence declines with progressive cellular division. Telomere length (TL) is therefore reflective of cellular age and is also seen to decline with increasing age in humans. In addition, TL shows wide inter-individual variation at any age throughout the life course and is a heritable trait. Originally considered a potential marker of biological ageing that could potentially explain part of the inter-individual variance in age-related disease risk, TL has been associated with an increased risk of several vascular diseases including abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)1 and coronary artery disease (CAD)2,3.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Interstitial responses in glomerular diseases
Summary of PhD Program:
Glomerular diseases are a leading cause of kidney failure worldwide.1 IgA nephropathy (IgAN), IgA vasculitis (IgAV) and lupus nephritis (LN) are glomerular diseases that confer a high lifetime risk of progression to kidney failure, and predominantly affect young adults.2 Even with the recent approval of drugs that modulate glomerular haemodynamics or inflammation, most patients still progress to kidney failure.3,4 This confers an increased lifetime risk of morbidity and mortality.
Application Deadline: 13 July 2025
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Kidney Lifestyle Research Program 2024 funded by the Stoneygate Trust – Understanding the prevalence of sleep apnoea and related dialysis specific factors
Summary of PhD Program:
Individuals with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) have a significantly increased risk of cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death in this population. Despite improvements in the care and management of these individuals, strategies to mitigate this enhanced cardiovascular risk have had little impact due to the non-traditional risk factors of chronic inflammation, uraemia, anaemia, renal bone-disease and haemodialysis-induced myocardial stunning associated with individuals receiving haemodialysis, (1-3).
