7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computing Science focusing on the topic of Parametric Floating-Point Reasoning
Summary of PhD Program:
The project focuses on automated reasoning about floating-point numbers whose bit size is unknown and given as a symbolic parameter. Reasoning about floating-point numbers of symbolic size allows one to overcome fundamental limitations of fixed-size reasoning; it is crucial to develop reusable formal models of floating-point arithmetic. The project will enable modern SMT solvers to reason about floating-point numbers of symbolic size, and will make this automation available to users of interactive proof assistants. These employ a special software architecture that renders them highly trustworthy but causes the efficient implementation of proof procedures to be more challenging. The project will include both a theoretical part, developing new techniques and approaches, as well as implementations that can be practically used.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Mixed Cation Battery Electrolytes
Summary of PhD Program:
The electrolyte is a central component in all rechargeable batteries. Something quite unusual within battery (electrolyte) research is concepts that combine several different active cations – which is the primary focus for this PhD project. The overall aim is to understand how to design and optimize the ionic conductivity, but also optimize basic battery performance. The methods to be employed are primarily physico-chemical characterization, to achieve composition-structure-dynamics correlations and expanded understanding for further rational design, as well as to construct electrochemical cells and test them.
Application Deadline: 23 June 2025
9. Fully Funded PhD Position in Novel Semi-solid Electrolyte Concepts
Summary of PhD Program:
The focus of this project is on using entropy as a design parameter for creating semi-solid electrolytes either by: i) mixing different conventional salts to find eutectics, ii) designing new easily melting salts, or iii) using special additives to create deep eutectic systems – and iv) combining i-iii. The methods are primarily physico-chemical characterization, to achieve composition-structure-dynamics correlations and increased understanding for further rational design, as well as proof-of-concept electrochemical tests in standard setups, to evaluate basic performance.

10. Fully Funded PhD Position in Self-driving Chemistry Labs for CO₂ conversion
Summary of PhD Program:
Transforming CO₂ into multi-carbon products through electrocatalysis represents an attractive strategy for both mitigating greenhouse gas emissions and storing excess renewable energy in chemical form. While advances in catalyst design have significantly improved the selective formation of multi-carbon products, the influence of the reaction environment, such as pH, ionic species, and their concentrations on product selectivity remains underexplored. This project aims to develop a self-driving lab for autonomous electrolyte formulation and evaluation, enabling rapid mapping of catalyst selectivity in relation to the reaction environment during CO₂ reduction (CO₂RR). The overarching goal is to build a fundamental mechanistic understanding of how environmental factors influence selectivity toward multi-carbon products in electrochemical CO₂ conversion via data-driven experimental approach.
Application Deadline: 1 July 2025
11. Fully Funded PhD Position in Pharmacokinetics-Pharmacodynamics modelling – Oncology
Summary of PhD Program:
The overarching aim of the project is to optimize treatment for children with cancer by improving the understanding of the relationship between dosing regimens, biomarkers and outcomes. For this, knowledge of how treatment-related biomarker dynamics relate to long-term adverse effects, recurrence and survival is key. For example, the relationships between peg-asparaginase dose, asparaginase activity, biomarkers and toxicities in leukaemia treatment remain unclear, and appear to depend on the overall treatment protocol. For glioma, biomarkers are being collected but their interplay and relationships to clinical factors and outcomes need to be better understood to provide clinical guidance. This PhD project aims to quantify pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic relationships between treatment, biomarkers, toxicities and clinical outcomes in childhood cancers.
