Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Join the vibrant Center of Excellence in Environmental Toxicology (CEET) to study air pollution and cancer. Study the metabolic activation of nitroarenes in human lung cells. Nitroarenes are components of diesel exhaust emission which is a Group 1 human carcinogen and are metabolically activated to reactive intermediates that can modify proteins to form the nitrosoproteome, and form covalent and oxidative lesions in DNA that lead to mutation. Our published studies shown that aldo-keto reductases perform this activation by nitroreduction and in lung cells they are induced by the NRF2-KEAP-1 pathway.
