2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Energy Island Controversies

Summary of PhD Program:

The ERC project “Good-by-Devicing” argues that social concerns about the energy transition are difficult to address in the planning and development phases of renewable energy projects, when opposition has already solidified. We therefore seek to enquire into whether and how these social concerns can be considered earlier, by investigating the design phase where experts develop and use critical design tools such as energy scenarios, digital simulations, and procurement schemes. The project uses the Danish case of the contested development of the world’s first ‘energy island’, the Baltic Energy Island on Bornholm. With this as our empirical background, we ask how the energy transition could be valued otherwise, encompassing broader social concerns.

15. Fully Funded PhD Position in biotech-focused data science and machine learning

Summary of PhD Program:

The enhancement of enzyme catalytic efficiency in varied contexts is vital for both research and industry. This process is influenced by multiple factors, including the choice of reactants, catalysts, solvents, and conditions like temperature, pressure, and pH balance. Traditional single-variable optimization falls short because these factors are interdependent, making multi-variable optimization complex. To address this, computational methods in machine learning (e.g., Bayesian neural networks) offer robust solutions for optimizing experimental conditions. These methods utilize predictive models to estimate performance metrics and their uncertainties for new conditions.

16. 02 Fully Funded PhD Position in kinetic investigation of human glycolysis

Summary of PhD Program:

The metabolism of glucose to pyruvate, glycolysis, is seen in most organisms including humans and taught in all introductory biochemistry courses. Despite the importance, we have yet to make a precise kinetic model capturing a detailed understanding of the underlying regulatory structure. Constructing a mechanistic model of human glycolysis will pave the way for further development of targeted medicines, preliminary screening of blood doners and strain engineering of biopharmaceutical cell factories. Thanks to recent advances in computational and analytical biology, it is now possible to reconcile mechanistic models of cell metabolism with information from quantitative multiomics experiments. In this study, we will explore two systems: red blood cells (RBC) and human embryonic kidney (HEK) cells.

23. Fully Funded PhD Position in Plasma Physics and Fusion Energy

Summary of PhD Program:

We are seeking a candidate to lead the newly constructed linear plasma device PACE (Plasma cavity Experiment) at the Technical University of Denmark. The objective of the device is to assess the non-linear wave physics of electron cyclotron heating waves used for tokamak operation. Recent work from large tokamaks indicates electron cyclotron heating waves may interact non-linearly with the plasma before reaching the heating position. Newly developed models predict that a significant part of the heating wave may be lost due to this effect. The goal of this project is to experimentally validate such models at the PACE device. The PACE device consists of an RF generated plasma with similar properties to an Edge Localized Mode in a tokamak plasma.
