6. Fully Funded PhD Position in computational mathematics

Summary of PhD Program:

We will recruit one doctoral student in computational mathematics to work under the supervision of Larisa Beilina https://www.math.chalmers.se/~larisa/. The main purpose of the project is to develop new adaptive non-local numerical methods for solving the multidimensional coefficient inverse problems (MCIP’s) and inverse source problems (IPS’s) in the framework of hyperbolic and parabolic PDE’s. Development of Carleman estimates to prove global uniqueness of reconstructed parameters in MCIP’s and sources in ISP’s is one of the main challenges of the project. New non-local methods for hyperbolic MCIP’s (for wave and Maxwell’s equations) will allow us to construct non-local algorithms to detect skin and breast tumours in real time.

19. Fully Funded PhD Position in Environmental Social Science with focus on farmers as geopolitical actors

Summary of PhD Program:

This PhD project will explore the role(s) of farmers as geopolitical actors. Its overarching focus will be how farmers perceive and navigate their role in a changing geopolitical environment and coincident sustainability transformations. In many countries, Russia’s war against Ukraine, the COVID-19 pandemic, and tensions around global trade have generated calls for increasing national self-sufficiency. Meanwhile, the climate and biodiversity crises create compounding challenges for agricultural livelihoods and food systems. Farmers must navigate these multiple challenges, developing farming practices and organizing strategically in response to them.

21. Fully Funded PhD Position in Medical Science -Aggressive B-cell lymphona

Summary of PhD Program:

Despite advances in both treatment and genetic classification of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), between 30 to 40% still die from the disease. DLBCL is a heterogeneous disease where both the malignant clone and the tumor microenvironment contribute to the variable clinical picture. However, the complexity can probably not only be explained by genetic changes and it can also be difficult to predict whether such changes really affect protein expression and thus the properties of the tumor cell.

22. Fully Funded PhD Position in Medical Science – Ultra-processed foods: biomarkers of exposure and potential health consequences

Summary of PhD Program:

Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) have undergone extensive industrial processing. While high consumption of UPF is associated with obesity and non-communicable disease, there is no established causal relationship between the degree of food processing, independent of nutrient profile, and health outcomes. The overall aim of this PhD project is to study the causal effects of a high UPF diet, compared to a nutrient-matched low UPF diet, on appetite and cardiometabolic health. In addition, biomarkers to assess UPF exposure will be identified.
