1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Atmospheric Chemistry
Summary of PhD Program:
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to contribute to a research project titled Atmospheric oxidation of emissions from the boreal forest in a complex and nonlinear world. This position is fully funded and will be part of an interdisciplinary collaboration exploring the complex chemistry of biogenic volatile organic compounds (BVOCs) and organic aerosols. The research task for the PhD student will be to conducting field observations, laboratory experiments, and modeling studies to understand the oxidation of BVOCs and their transformation into secondary organic aerosols (SOAs).
Application Deadline: 20th of April 2025
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Quantum error correction
Summary of PhD Program:
Future quantum computers will need to apply some algorithm for error correction, because quantum bits are very sensitive to noise. The most promising way is to use so-called topological stabilizer codes. An essential part of the code is a decoding algorithm that converts complicated sequences of measurements into operations that correct errors in the code. The topic of the project will be to explore different implementations of error correcting codes on IBM quantum computers, to which we have dedicated access through Chalmers Next Labs.

3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Epilepsy and intracerebral haemorhage
Summary of PhD Program:
This PhD-project will study the relationship between epilepsy and ICH, from epidemiological associations to molecular markers of vascular risk. The PhD-project will be based on register-data from two ongoing projects; one on rehabilitation after stroke and one on long-term prognosis of epilepsy. Briefly, register data from the National Board of Health and Welfare and The national quality register for stroke Riksstroke are used to identify persons with epilepsy after stroke who are then followed prospectively with regards to risk of epilepsy, difficult-to-treat epilepsy, rehabilitation, and death.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Physical Chemistry with a focus on molecular photophysics
Summary of PhD Program:
This project aim is to channel excitation energy to charge transfer states in an organic heterojunction using the delocalized nature of hybrid light-matter states. This interaction enables transport of excitation energy over distances much longer than being previously considered feasible. The outcome of your work is the description and mechanistic revelation of a novel quantum physical phenomenon that can enable production of organic solar cells from simple layered structures with unprecedented efficiencies.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Odontological Science
Summary of PhD Program:
This PhD project primarily aims to explore, describe, and analyze epidemiological trends of dental caries among Swedish adults over different time periods, spanning from historical eras up to the present day. As part of this, various contemporary registry data will be linked to assess potential associations between known risk factors for the disease and caries data in adult Swedish populations. In summary, the doctoral project will consist of four parts, utilizing both historical data and current caries data to analyze the prevalence of the disease in Swedish populations.
Application Deadline: 2025-04-01
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computational Pathology
Summary of PhD Program:
Skin diseases are common and cause significant morbidity globally. Skin cancer incidence is rapidly increasing. The gold standard for diagnosis is histopathological verification, which burdens dermatopathology laboratories. Challenges include high interobserver variability and increased workload. Digitalization enables AI solutions in digital pathology. Deep learning can increase diagnostic precision, reduce diagnosis time, and decrease variability. Weakly supervised and unsupervised learning methods are being developed to handle large datasets efficiently.
Application Deadline: 2025-04-01
7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Basic Medicine, 2-4 positions
Summary of PhD Program:
The departmental duties aims to provide doctoral students in Basic Medicine in-depth knowledge in pedagogy and didactics as well as subject specialization in one of the following areas:
- biochemistry/cell biology/genetics,
- pharmacology,
- physiology,
- microbiology/immunology, or
- morphology/development biology. Morphology corresponds primarily to histology and anatomy.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Software security
Summary of PhD Program:
Modern software applications are almost never built from scratch but reuse a significant amount of code that has been built by 3rd parties. These code artifacts, in the form of externally developed libraries, packages and frameworks form the core of their so-called software supply chain. The goal of this project is to design, develop, and evaluate new paradigms for securing software supply chain. The activities will be ranging from developing the theoretical foundations of classes of attacks and defenses, developing state-of-the-art analysis tools, conducting large scale analyses of the emergence of vulnerabilities in the software supply chain.
Application Deadline: 2025-04-02
9. 1-2 Fully Funded PhD Position in Law
Summary of PhD Program:
Doctoral studies comprise four years of full-time studies, and lead to a doctoral degree. As part of your employment as a doctoral student, you may have departmental duties corresponding to up to 20 % of full-time employment, distributed throughout your study period, and result in a corresponding extension of the studies. Departmental duties usually consist of teaching at first- and second-cycle levels, but may also include research and administration.

10. Fully Funded PhD Position in Characterization and Identification of Novel Prognostic and Predictive Biomarkers
Summary of PhD Program:
The main purpose of this PhD project is to identify biomarkers that can be used for early detection, risk stratification, and potential therapeutic targeting in borderline serous ovarian tumors (BOTs). BOTs are a distinct subgroup of ovarian neoplasms, characterized by their intermediate behavior between benign and malignant ovarian tumors. Unlike invasive ovarian cancer (OC), BOTs have a significantly better prognosis and typically lack stromal invasion, but they can recur or transform into invasive disease in some cases. BOTs are predominantly categorized into serous and mucinous histotypes, each with varying clinical presentations, molecular profiles, and prognostic outcomes.

11. Fully Funded PhD Position in Translational studies of neuroendocrine tumors
Summary of PhD Program:
Cancer is a heterogenous group of diseases and individual forms of cancer often display distinctive clinical features that highlight underlying tumor biology. Small intestinal neuroendocrine tumor (SI-NET) is the most common malignant tumor in the small intestine and has several intriguing clinical and molecular properties, yet underlying oncogenic mechanisms are still poorly understood. The limited understanding of SI-NET pathology hinders the development of novel treatment options and predicting treatment response from existing therapy.

16. Fully Funded PhD Position in Translational cancer research
Summary of PhD Program:
Cancer arises when cells accumulate genetic alterations (mutations) that result in uncontrolled growth signaling. Although the immune system can detect these altered cells, cancer cells often deactivate the immune response. This deactivation can be counteracted using drugs known as immune checkpoint inhibitors. However, not all patients’ tumors respond to these treatments. For such cases, an alternative option is cell therapy, where the patient’s immune cells are expanded in the lab and then re-infused into the patient.
