2. Fully Funded PhD Position in domain of Quantitative Computational Imaging (perfusion MRI)

Summary of PhD Program:

We are seeking for a motivated and talented PhD student to develop model-based reconstruction methods for quantitative super-resolution perfusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Specifically, you will develop model-based image reconstruction methods for quantitative arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI images. ASL is a promising, non-invasive perfusion magnetic resonance imaging technique for quantifying cerebral blood flow (CBF). Unfortunately, ASL suffers from an inherently low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and spatial resolution, undermining its potential. Increasing spatial resolution without significantly sacrificing SNR or scan time represents a critical challenge towards routine (pre)clinical use.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in neuroscience

Summary of PhD Program:

Charcot-Marie-Tooth neuropathy can be caused by mutations in different genes. Clinical studies have demonstrated that hereditary neuropathies can also involve muscle pathologies, complicate diagnosis and hamper therapy development. We have developed advanced in vitro cell models, such as co-cultures, microfluidics, and neuromuscular organoids that incorporate motor neurons, skeletal muscle, and supporting cells (Schwann cells and macrophages) generated from patient induced pluripotent stem cells to elucidate the pathogenicity of peripheral neuropathies.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in immunoparasitology and vaccine development

Summary of PhD Program:

You will join a dynamic and interdisciplinary team working at the intersection of immunology, parasitology, and genetics, with a strong emphasis on vaccine development and natural transmission with insect vectors. The project focuses on human protozoan parasites Plasmodium and Leishmania that express pro-inflammatory factors, which hyperactivate the host immune system and hinder the establishment of long-term immunologic memory. Strategies such as immunoneutralization or genetic deletion of these parasitic factors have enhanced host immune memory and provided protection against severe disease and reinfection.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in neuroimmunology

Summary of PhD Program:

This project will investigate how peripheral immune signals shape brain and brain-border immunity and drive neuroinflammation in synucleinopathies and other neurodegenerative diseases. The candidate will employ advanced in vivo models and spatial technologies to dissect the roles of tissue-resident macrophages and infiltrating immune cells along the periphery–immune–brain axis.

20. Fully Funded PhD Position in family sociology

Summary of PhD Program:

Population ageing has required European policy makers to gear towards a more central role of informal care in old adulthood, curbing the public expenditures on care service provisions. The presence of close relatives, such as spouses or close-living children, is known to postpone older persons’ uptake of professional care. This suggests that informal caregivers substitute, at least temporarily, for formal care alternatives. However, to date, there is limited research looking at the specific non-professional care arrangements that older persons can rely on before taking up professional care.
