A driven postdoctoral associate is sought to join the neurotoxicology laboratory headed by Jason Cannon, Ph.D. The lab utilizes translationally relevant approaches to discover mechanisms of environmentally induced neurodegeneration and is well funded. The successful candidate will lead one of the following directions in the lab: 1) Neuromelanin-neurotoxicant interactions as primary mechanisms of dopaminergic neurotoxicity; 2) Adverse neurological outcomes induced by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); and 3) Non-cholinergic targets of organophosphate induced neurodegeneration. In each of these projects, the successful applicant will have an opportunity to utilize comparative biology approaches as well as implement bidirectional translation, working across biological scale from primary mechanism of action through studies of human samples/subjects.

The O’Brien lab is investigating how and why chronic infection with Helicobacter pylori drives gastric cancer development, in order to develop new strategies for preventing disease progression and reverting the gastric epithelium back to a healthy state. The successful candidate will have primary responsibility for data collection and analysis for projects focused on H. pylori pathogenesis, gastric immune profiling, and immune cell depletions and adoptive transfers in a new mouse model of gastric disease.
