You will break new ground in developing cutting-edge multiscale methods to accurately describe the initiation and propagation of corrosion at the interface between metals (e.g., Ni) and molten salts (FLiNaK). These systems are gaining interest for their potential in molten salt nuclear reactors. You will combine atomistic simulations (density functional theory and ab-initio molecular dynamics simulations) with artificial intelligence techniques to parameterize machine learning force fields and kinetic Monte Carlo methods to model the molten salt/metal interface at multiple scales, from atomistic to mesoscopic, with the goal of identifying the fundamental mechanisms driving corrosion.

In the ERC-funded project DECIDE we aim at developing a new generation of heuristic and exact methods for two-stage stochastic optimization problems. In the project, you will screen, isolate and characterize soil- and plant-associated bacteria that express “anti-virulence” activities, and test how these bacteria may limit Pseudomonas syringae infections in plant experiments. 19. Fully Funded PhD Position in biodiversity associated with various human-made reefs and other marine structures

Summary of PhD Program:

The PhD Scholarship includes before-after control-impact (BACI) studies as well as underwater footage to determine fish abundance (MaxN) and biodiversity of mobile fauna (e.g. shore crab). Footage will be collected using various underwater cameras deployed near the seabed. The sampling methodology is considered non-invasive because no fish is harmed, and the sampling infers almost no footprint on the seabed. Boulder reefs and concrete reefs will be deployed during the spring 2025 and surveyed afterwards. Pre-reef data were collected in 2023 and are also available for your project.
