1. Fully Funded PhD Position in Integrated Circuit Design
Summary of PhD Program:
We look for a Doctoral Researcher who will pursue a doctoral degree at Tampere University. The researcher will conduct high-quality scientific research in the field of integrated circuit design and signal processing, and disseminate the results in leading journals and scientific conferences. This involves building system models and an evaluation framework using computational software like MATLAB, development of new circuit techniques and architectures to push the performance boundary of systems, designing and taping out of prototype radio transceiver subsystems with nanometer-scale CMOS technologies, and post-fabrication evaluation of the ICs.
Application Deadline: 2024-04-02
2. Fully Funded PhD Position in Distributed AI for enhanced security in GNSS
Summary of PhD Program:
The Doctoral Research will participate in the activities related to wireless satellite positioning in a transnational research project and will enroll as a PhD student at Tampere University in the Electrical Engineering Unit of the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences. The research work will focus on enhancing GNSS receiver security and robustness through AI and machine learning techniques, for example by implementing AI/ML techniques for RF fingerprinting with satellite navigation signals and studying collaborative positioning methods for threat localization.
Application Deadline: 2024-02-28

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Clutter characterization and cancellation in MIMO sensing via backscattered signals
Summary of PhD Program:
The Doctoral Researcher will enroll as a PhD student at TAU at latest by the date that their contract will start and will actively participate in all the research and training activities of MiFuture network, including participation to regular networking events and 3-month secondment to our academic partner Instituto de Telecomunicaçoes (IT), in Portugal. The Doctoral Researcher will spend 18 months at TAU (including the 3-month secondment at IT) and 18 months at Ericsson, Finland.
Application Deadline: March 31, 2024
5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Machine Learning Algorithms for Cell Free systems in 6G networks
Summary of PhD Program:
The research work will focus on developing novel machine learning (ML) algorithms for evolving ultra-massive MIMO scenario in the context of distributed/Cell Free MIMO with the objective to provision automated solutions for radio resource management, mobility, and other MAC/RRM level aspects. The challenge of multiple service types, ultra-dense scenarios, super high density of User Equipment as well as heterogeneous radio access technologies types will be some of the many constraints that will be considered in the design of ML algorithms.
Application Deadline: March 31, 2024
6. Fully Funded PhD Position in positioning and tracking of non-connected objects for vehicular safety with mm-Wave frequencies
Summary of PhD Program:
The research work will focus on proposing sensing-based positioning enhancements of non-connected vehicles when sensing is done by the cellular network, based on ultra-massive MIMO and backscattered mm-wave signals, and when the positioning is done either at the vehicle side, or at the network side, or both. Parameter estimation and tracking of relevant parameters (e.g., Doppler, angle, etc.) will also be performed to support and enhance the positioning performance in vehicular scenarios. Besides, collision detection and prevention metrics will be developed based on mm-wave sensing.
Application Deadline: March 31, 2024
7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computational Biology
Summary of PhD Program:
Your task will be to develop statistical models of epithelial tissues to simultaneously identify the driving kinetic factors of the tissue’s long-term behaviors in response to varying environmental fluctuations. You will work closely with experimentalists from our partner groups to interpret in vitro data on tissue behaviors, in particular the calcium responses, to light-induced stimulations. The captured calcium dynamics to stimuli of different scales are then combined by integrating the principles of statistical biophysics and machine learning to characterize the trajectory of tissue behaviors over time.
