8. Fully Funded PhD Position in microwave hyperthermia cancer treatment
Summary of PhD Program:
In this project you will work in a team on developing a multi-channel hyperthermia system for focused heat delivery into deep seated tumors. Hyperthermia, i.e heating of tumour tissue in the range of 40–44°C, is applied in combination with radiotherapy and/or chemotherapy to improve clinical outcome. In recent years, the ability of hyperthermia to dramatically enhance tumour control rates and even increase patient survival rates for most common cancer types has been demonstrated. At Chalmers, in close collaborations with medical expertise at the Sahlgrenska Academy at Gothenburg University, we are developing microwave hyperthermia systems to improve the treatment outcome for patients with advanced cancer in head and neck (H&N) and for children with brain tumours.

9. Fully Funded PhD Position in biaxial thermo-mechanical fatigue resistance of superalloys
Summary of PhD Program:
The BIFROST project is funded by Vinnova via the NFFP8 programme and is carried out in close collaboration with GKN Aerospace Sweden AB. High performance gas turbine engines require advanced component manufacturing techniques, and in today’s engines cast and forged parts are often welded together. Additive manufacturing could potentially contribute to reduced material usage, high flexibility in the design geometry and tailored anisotropic properties. However, complex geometries are subject to multi-axial stress states and strong thermal gradients in service. Advanced mechanical and microstructural characterisation is required for correct design and life prediction of such components.
