For the dimensional integrity of the product, this fast iteration means that components and assemblies being measured often become disconnected from the digital tolerance simulation models. 3. Fully Funded PhD Position in Multiphase and reactive flows in natural materials: Applications in geosciences
Summary of PhD Program:
Fluids moving through materials like sandstone can dissolve or precipitate solids as they travel. with an ease that depends on the size and connectivity of its pores. In natural porous materials, like sandstone, salts and other minerals can react to clog or dissolve pores. This process of “reactive transport” is controlled by the feedback between fluid flow and the alteration of transport properties. It is relevant to subsurface flows of sequestered CO2, storage of H2, as well as biofouling of filters, flows in bioreactors, and the movement and precipitation of salts in built structures. In all these applications, while alteration happens at the scale of micron-sized pores, its impact is felt at scales of metres and above, and involves the interplay of trillions of pores.

4. Fully Funded PhD Position in Mechanistic insights into Family B G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) using SMA-like polymers
Summary of PhD Program:
The project will address this knowledge gap by focusing on the molecular pharmacology of three distinct CLR-containing GPCRs: calcitonin gene-related peptide receptor (CGRP-R; CLR-RAMP1), adrenomedullin 1 receptor (AM1-R; CLR-RAMP2) and adrenomedullin 2 receptor (AM2-R; CLR-RAMP3). Novel genetically-engineered mammalian cell system will be generated to study CLR-RAMPs molecular pharmacology. This will facilitate mechanistic insights, aid the rational design of chemical probes and potential therapeutics targeting CLR-RAMPs in the future.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by symptoms of inattention, hyperactivity and or impulsivity. The diagnosis is based on subjective report, and as yet there are no objective biomarkers used clinically. In addition to the core symptoms, individuals with ADHD often present with a profile of cognitive deficits, that has been argued to results from lapse of attention. Being able to identify the brain networks and neural signature of an attentional lapse, will not only further our understanding of the neurobiology, but could also be used to monitor and predict cognitive performance, offering potential target for intervention.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Post-Hurricane Damage and Recovery: A remote assessment of agricultural resilience in the Caribbean
Summary of PhD Program:
The purpose of this research is to conduct a regional assessment of all hurricanes that made landfall in the Caribbean, 2010-2020, to determine the overall impact of hurricanes on agriculture and the factors that contribute to agricultural loss. Utilising satellite imagery, a standardised methodology will be developed that will enable the short-term damage and long-term recovery of agricultural land to be identified, as well as compare hurricane events and farming systems. The findings of this research will drive innovations in resilience by determining disaster-resilient farming systems that are able to withstand and recover from future events.

Summary of PhD Program:
The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence recognised that wearables can improve mental health in the general population. However, this advice has not been extended to the perinatal period due to a lack of research, impeded by the stigma related to perinatal mental health. Importantly, recent studies have speculated a correlation between aberrant expression of lactogenic hormones and pathological changes in mood and sleep.
Following (i) a systematic literature review, this research will (ii) evaluate the suitability of a wearable intervention in the postnatal period and (iii) explore the trajectory and protective role of circadian rhythms and prolactin levels on mental health during the early postnatal period. The outcomes will lay the foundations to extend treatment care for women post-birth.

This PhD project will focus on the modelling of electro-magnetic effects, in particular, clarify the possible role of Alfvén waves in planetary core convection. 15. Fully Funded PhD Position in Interoception of breathing and the effects on the cortical control of balance
Summary of PhD Program:
Interoceptive pathways offer ripe opportunities for experimental manipu-lations of mind–body interactions, which can lead to promising interven-tions to reduce high levels of fear about falling. Breathing is profoundly in-fluenced by emotion and is one of the few physiological functions that can be volitionally controlled, potentially providing a powerful portal to entrain and modify high levels of fear. The proposed project brings together differ-ent disciplines (neuroscience, signal processing, physiology, and psychology) to probe the role of interoception (specifically breathing) in the generation of fear of falling. We will use neuroscientific techniques (such as electroen-cephalography [EEG]) to shed light on potential brain mechanisms involved in the interoception of breathing, and elucidate how these factors influence subjective fear and anxiety states.
