Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
The CyberAI project at the Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) is currently seeking Research Fellow candidates to explore topics at the intersection of AI and cyber. The nation’s dependencies upon a well-functioning cyber ecosystem has come into sharp focus as a range of cyber attacks have disrupted commerce, affected supply chains, and harmed individuals. AI techniques, specifically machine learning, offer an opportunity to uplift cyber defenses and improve the underlying security of this critical resource on which our society relies. However, there are numerous challenges to effecting these changes — some technical and others policy-related. This Research Fellow will use a blend of analytic and technical skills to enable them to work in one or more of the following areas: assessing how AI techniques might improve cybersecurity, assessing how AI could alter future cyber operations and create new threats, examining the potential failure modes of related AI techniques, or researching the geostrategic implications of AI-enabled cyber operations. This Research Fellow will describe AI and cyber concepts in an accessible way for a non-technical audience while identifying associated challenges and making relevant policy recommendations.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
The AI Assessment project at Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET) is currently seeking Research Fellow candidates to focus on AI Assessment and its impact on US policy, national security, and society. Many current and trending AI issues are covered by this area of research, including standards, testing, evaluation, safety, auditing, ethical AI, responsible AI, and trustworthiness. The commonality of these trending AI issues is that they seek to balance the tremendous opportunity that AI systems have to provide, with the need to develop and deploy AI systems in a manner that ensures they operate as intended while minimizing harm. As a Research Fellow in AI Assessment you will have an opportunity to shape national and international discussion and policy. CSET Research Fellows have a history of directly impacting national security and tech policy discussions. Their expertises and analyses are sought by policy makers, national agencies, and congressional committees. Additionally, CSET Research Fellows frequently interact with international organizations, act as a connector between industry and government, and serve as subject matter experts for the media. AI Assessment is a young field of expertise that is quickly expanding as governments and companies recognize the need for AI assessment, standards, testing, and best practices. Thus, this position is a good opportunity for someone interested in pivoting into a new career area and/or those looking to develop expertise in a rapidly growing field. Recognizing AI Assessment is a budding field, we encourage anyone who is eager about the topic to submit an application, even those who are unsure of their candidacy. Examples of the type of work the AI Assessment line of research produces include this Data Brief on AI safety and this Analysis on securing machine learning supply chains.
