Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Postdoctoral position is open in the area of aerosol chemistry with focus on the chemical imaging of atmospheric particles collected in various field studies. Qualified candidate will work in a group Dr. A. Laskin at Purdue University on selected projects focused on comprehensive multi-modal offline analyses of particle composition, mixing state, size, and morphology. Elemental composition will be quantified using computer controlled scanning electron microscopy and X-ray microanalysis. The chemical bonding speciation of carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur in the individual particles will be probed using synchrotron-based scanning transmission X-ray microscopy. These experiments will be used to study effects of anthropogenic and natural emissions on the external and internal (mixing state) composition of individual particles; modifications of their physicochemical properties; understanding their origin and atmospheric transformations; understanding ageing mechanisms that result in increased viscosity of particles; understanding how these changes affect their atmospheric lifetime, heterogeneous reactions, optical and hygroscopic properties.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
Purdue University and the University of Oregon are looking for a 2-year joint postdoc position to work on passive source velocity model creation and uncertainty analysis for the Cascadia margin with a preferred starting date between August and October, 2023. Specifically, this postdoc will work to synthesize pre-existing velocity models for the region and create a regional-scale seismic velocity model of the onshore and offshore structure of the Cascadia margin down to mantle depths (~200 km). Creating the model will involve 1) analyzing and compiling various passive datasets to constrain regional velocity structure, 2) applying innovative approaches to create a 3D shear-wave velocity model by jointly analyzing different datasets and their uncertainties, and 3) incorporating results from active source wide-angle reflection and refraction datasets into the final model. This model will be used to better understand the geologic and tectonic processes controlling the variable behavior of the Cascadia margin and will also be used by ground motion modelers interested in seismic wave propagation modeling and hazard analysis.

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:
A driven postdoctoral associate is sought to join the neurotoxicology laboratory headed by Jason Cannon, Ph.D. The lab utilizes translationally relevant approaches to discover mechanisms of environmentally induced neurodegeneration and is well funded. The successful candidate will lead one of the following directions in the lab: 1) Neuromelanin-neurotoxicant interactions as primary mechanisms of dopaminergic neurotoxicity; 2) Adverse neurological outcomes induced by per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS); and 3) Non-cholinergic targets of organophosphate induced neurodegeneration. In each of these projects, the successful applicant will have an opportunity to utilize comparative biology approaches as well as implement bidirectional translation, working across biological scale from primary mechanism of action through studies of human samples/subjects. The successful applicant will be strongly encouraged to develop their own ideas and seek extramural funding – F32, K99/R00, and foundation grants will be strongly supported, building upon prior success of this laboratory.
