5. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Multi-drug resistant (MDR) Enterobacterales (Ent) infections have emerged as a serious public health threat and extra-intestinal and invasive community-acquired (CA) infections are increasingly being reported in young children and individuals without significant healthcare exposures. The major contributor is the rapid global spread of transmissible beta-lactamase (bla) and other AR genes (ARGs) carried on mobile genetic elements, which reduce or eliminate the effectiveness of multiple antibiotics. While it is known that several ARGs in clinically relevant bacteria evolved from the natural environment, a paucity of data exist on the extent to which environmental and animal reservoirs contribute to domestic acquisition of MDR Ent in healthy persons.

8. Postdoctoral Position

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

A postdoctoral position is available at the Emory University School of Medicine to join an innovative laboratory that studies the mechanism of enveloped virus entry into cells and its regulation by host factors. A new project in the lab is aimed at understanding the mechanism of HIV-1 protease activation upon virus budding from cell. Our group combines molecular/cell biology, and quantitative microscopy techniques, such as single particle tracking and super-resolution imaging, to investigate the early steps of infection – membrane fusion, transport, uncoating of viral core and late stages of infection. To gain structural insights into virus entry, we employ correlative light-cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-CLEM) techniques.
