The lab currently studies the hypoxia signaling, prolyl hydroxylases, and cancer, specifically breast and renal cell carcinoma. 7. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

Under the supervision of Drs. Krista M. Perreira (UNC Chapel Hill) and Tonia Poteat (Duke University), the postdoctoral fellow will contribute to multiple collaborative efforts and have the opportunity to develop independent research projects using data on sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) in the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos. The post-doctoral fellow will also work closely with HCHS/SOL biostatisticians, project managers, and data coordinators in the UNC Biostatistics Collaborative Studies Coordinating Center (CSCC). The CSCC consists of more than 100 staff and students, including more than a dozen faculty members from the UNC – Chapel Hill departments of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Nutrition, Medicine (Cardiology Division) and Social Medicine. The selected candidates will engage in research activities related to a number of ongoing federally funded clinical trials examining the efficacy of behavioral therapies for autistic individuals in adolescence, adulthood, and older adulthood. Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

This position will employ experimental systems and interdisciplinary approaches and provide broad training in the areas of cell cycle and tumor suppression, epigenetic control during tumorigenesis, with an emphasis on the regulation of DNA methylation in pancreatic and liver cancers, among other diseases. The purpose of the position is to understand how cancer drivers initiate and maintain lineages that no longer play by the rules of evolutionarily dictated cell fate specification and hierarchical organization in order to identify, revert, and eliminate them. Working with PI (Dr. Musa Manga), the postdoc will lead the development of sampling and analysis plans for the measurement of enteric pathogens in environmental media; organize and oversee fieldwork activities involving collection of environmental and faecal sludge samples, on-site in Lusaka, Zambia and Kampala, Uganda; liaise with project partners and the community; develop and optimize microbiology and molecular methods for the detection, quantification, and characterization of pathogens and/or microbial in collected samples; perform DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, sequencing, and other molecular techniques for pathogen and/or microbial identification and analysis; technical modelling and analysis of pathogen and field data, and integrate findings into broader research objectives; provide mentorship and training of graduate and undergraduate research assistants; and maintain active communication with project stakeholders; and collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to interpret results, contribute to publications, and present findings at scientific meetings and stakeholder meetings.
