Summary of PhD Program:
This PhD project aims to follow the molecular events of H2 evolution in [FeFe]-hydrogenases during turnover, at ambient conditions and in real time to reveal fundamental chemical principles that can be used for green and sustainable H2 catalyst design. To achieve this in practice, you will produce enzyme crystals and continue to develop the in our group existing experimental handles to control and verify the redox state inside crystals. To characterise the function and structure of key reaction intermediates you will solve room temperature structures. Critically, via rapid mixing and our novel artificial photoactivation method you will follow H2 catalysis in the form of real time molecular movies via transient spectroscopy and time-resolved crystallography at Free Electron Laser X-ray sources.

5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Solid State Physics
Summary of PhD Program:
The most powerful permanent magnets are based on rare earth metals, which are classified as both rare and strategic, meaning both scarcity and high price. In this project, we develop durable magnets using new synthesis methods and establish their utility through detailed magnetic measurements. The synthesis includes nanocomposites and metal alloys free from, or with a very small content of, rare earth metals. One goal of the project is to experimentally realize new alloys and compounds that, from calculations, are predicted to have high performance as permanent magnets.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in flexible and active antenna array for SATCOM applications
Summary of PhD Program:
The EU-funded NANOMAT project pioneers a ground-breaking domain in flexible electronics, specifically focusing on flexible power radio frequency (RF) nanoelectronics. This innovative project integrates various technologies to overcome existing limitations in flexible electronics. The key components include carbon-based electronics and thermoelectrics, wide band gap semiconductor-based monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs), RF microelectromechanical systems (MEMS), and acoustic sensors. The project will showcase advancement through two prototypes. The first is a flexible hybrid proof of concept designed for satellite IoT at the Ka-band.
Application Deadline: 2024-02-15
9. Fully Funded PhD Position in New environmentally friendly electric motors for sustainable electrification
Summary of PhD Program:
Dependency on rare earth metals is a challenge for future electrification as rare earth metals are considered critical raw materials. The aim of this project is to reduce the use of rare earth metals through the substitution to new magnets without, or with less, rare earth metals. The new magnets will be both weaker and easier to demagnetize than conventional magnets and therefore new simulation models need to be developed for the unique magnets, and implemented in simulation software for electric motor design. The new models will be more advanced than existing models and adapted for the new magnets and will therefore model the magnets more accurately. Furthermore, new innovative motor types must be developed that are adapted to the new magnets.
Application Deadline: 2024-02-29
10. Fully Funded PhD Position in Earth Science within remote sensing and snow physics
Summary of PhD Program:
The PhD student will participate in winter field research campaigns in northern Sweden and Canada, and should therefore be willing to spend time outdoor for data collection, either alone or together with other project participants. Observations of snow will be carried out with spectroradiometers on the ground and mounted on drones, while other physico-chemical properties of the snow cover, and of particulate pollutants deposited into it, will be performed with specialized instruments. The information will then be used to develop and validate algorithms for retrieving dust amounts and its properties from snow spectral albedo. Research findings will be integrated into a physical snowpack model driven by meteorological data in order to estimate impacts of the dust on the snow albedo and melt rates.

13. Fully Funded PhD Position in Chingqi Chen’s gropu at IGP
Summary of PhD Program:
The focus of our work is to understand cell fate decisions in human disease. We are developing state-of-art single-cell technologies to characterize cell heterogeneity in a systematic manner and to identify key players involved in controlling specific cell fates. In our group, we are fascinated by why cells in our body contain the exact same DNA sequence but turn into different fates. For instance, what is it that makes some cells in human bodies become cancer and not others? And how can stem cells differentiate into totally different cell types?

15. Fully Funded PhD Position in Cancer and Molecular targeted therapy
Summary of PhD Program:
Quiescent cancer cells (QCCs) residing in the reversible G0 phase present a significant therapeutic challenge due to their inaccessibility through surgery and resistance to conventional cell cycle-targeted therapies. The potential transformation of QCCs into proliferative cancer cells (PCCs) contributes to recurrence and eventual metastasis. Despite a decade of extensive research into the mechanisms of QCCs, these cells remain enigmatic. We are actively seeking a motivated PhD student to spearhead the identification of innovative anticancer agents targeting QCCs. The research will involve spheroid-based screenings of diverse chemical libraries for colorectal cancer and pediatric neuroblastoma.
