5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Separator development for alkaline water electrolysis

Summary of PhD Program:

Hydrogen is a recognized crucial component, required for many industrial processes. The sustainable electrochemical production of hydrogen, i.e. green hydrogen, needs to economically compete with the conventional (fossil based) production methods. You will explore the optimization of hydrogen production through alkaline electrolysis in a large consortium of academia and industry. This specific PhD position is focused on the development of diaphragms and separators. These separators need to provide excellent ionic transport, limit gas cross over, and be able to withstand harsh conditions (high pH and temperature) for prolonged times.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in micro Coriolis mass flow sensors for gas flow measurement

Summary of PhD Program:

In the new project “Micro Coriolis mass flow sensors for gas flows”, new sensor designs and new features of the fabrication process will be explored to improve the zero stability, lower the thermal noise level, and reduce the pressure drop over the sensor. The research concentrates on the design, fabrication and characterization of a complete sensor system that can measure gas flows down to microgram per hour levels. The main challenges are (1) the design and modelling of new sensor topologies based on technologies that have not been explored before, (2) optimization of the MEMS fabrication process, (3) fabrication of the sensor chips in the MESA+ cleanroom and (4) evaluation of the resulting performance improvement in our MEMS measurement lab.

9. Fully Funded PhD Position in Computational Biology: Digital Twins & Disease Modeling for Precision Osteoarthritis Treatments

Summary of PhD Program:

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a complex disease in which multiple tissues in the joint are affected. Recently, multiple OA risk genes were identified based on small genetic variations (SNPs) in the regulatory sequences of these genes. These variations can lead to unfavorable expression of these genes contributing to disease progression. OA patients have different unique combinations of SNPs that lead to OA onset and progression. In this project we will uncover the integrated effects of deviant OA risk gene expression in cartilage with the aim to develop effective disease-modifying therapies.

10.
Fully Funded PhD Position in Development of diagnostic AI tools to change from analysis to synthesis for EMC

Summary of PhD Program:

The unwanted emission or unwanted susceptibility of complex systems is always caused by aspects which are “forgotten” in the design. This is also the reason why even fantastic extremely difficult simulations fail to model accurately the EMI propagation in products. This DC will first ensure the data validity used for modelling EMI propagation at a system level. S/he will consider “forgotten” parameters from Expert Systems made exceptionally available by the industry, containing field diagnostic and accumulated precious (unpublished) knowledge from senior (EMC) experts.

11. Fully Funded PhD Position in cross-border ambulance positioning

Summary of PhD Program:

This position is embedded in the project CARE-FLOW. Its objective is to develop and evaluate algorithms for the healthcare sector and to improve the management of patient flows and capacities in a Dutch/German border region to ensure access to and efficiency of healthcare. Two distinct algorithms/mathematical models will be developed within the working package “Cross-border positioning of ambulances”. The first one optimizes ambulance positioning in Germany and the Netherlands based on demand forecasts linking incident locations with hospitals in the region. Planning is enhanced through real-time repositioning and predicting peak demands.
