The new DeTect (Deformation and Tectonics) research group, hosted within the Institute of Earth Sciences (ISTE) and Faculty of Geosciences and Environment (FGSE), is seeking a PhD researcher to join its research program in 4D digital field and structural geology. DeTect aims to unravel the 3D structural and tectonic evolution using an integrated digital and field-based mapping and modelling approach.
The successful candidate will develop a PhD project on studying deformation in the Jura Mountains. They will also investigate the links between brittle deformation, regional tectonics, and structural inheritance (e.g., reactivation potential of faults under the current stress field, relationships between internal structures of the Jura fold and thrust belt and pre-existing basement features). Our societies face multiple intertwined crises. Bold alternatives are sorely needed. The REAL project develops frameworks for ‘Post-Growth Deals’, from empirical research through to practical applications. First, we develop equitable North-South convergence scenarios, modelling human well-being achievement in all countries within planetary boundaries. Second, we articulate post-growth policy packages for the Global North and South, assessing their political acceptability and modelling their effects. Third, we develop models of provisioning systems to ensure future populations have adequate energy, food, shelter, health and social security. Fourth, we learn from political movements, studying politics and alliances – at local, national and international levels – that could bring post-growth transitions forward.
