As part of a project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), we are investigating the interaction of biological, social and psychological factors in the development of mental illnesses in adolescence. One focus is on symptoms in the area of emotional dysregulation and risky and self-harming behavior. We are looking for a doctoral student with a high level of motivation to help with data collection and to carry out statistical analyses of complex data (e.g. longitudinal data). Childhood cancer is a rare disease that affects approximately 1 in 350 children per year. Currently more than 85% of children with cancer can be cured. Yet we know little about long-term trajectories of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) as survivors age, their life circumstances change, and health problems become more common. In your PhD project you will investigate changes in HRQOL and explore the drivers of unfavorable HRQOL trajectories that involve specific health problems and behaviors. It will be embedded in the nation-wide Swiss Childhood Cancer Survivor Study (SCCSS).

The aim of the doctorate is to provide scientific support for the weekly memory training of the memory clinic, to collect qualitative and quantitative data, e.g. on cognition, motivation and self-efficacy, and to test digital health interventions (DHI). We are currently planning the PICO-5 study, a 5-year long-term study of all participants in the PICO study. In the PICO-5 study, we are asking how the cognition, psychosocial variables and, above all, the cerebral markers (structural and functional MRI) of patients with phenylketonuria develop in adulthood. The focus is on determining the longitudinal development of the “brain age” of patients and healthy study participants and the extent to which brain age is associated with cognition and biomarkers.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Heat Extremes and Health
Summary of PhD Program:
The goal of the PhD project is to provide and analyse a number of health-relevant heat indicators at high spatial resolution for Europe for the past, present and future that can then be combined with other geospatial information as well as with other hazards (e.g., air pollution) to address compound risks. The analysis will also address climatic drivers in combination with a large ensemble of climate model simulations.
