1. Two Postdoctoral Positions
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
The overarching goal of this ERC project external link is to visualize and dissect the spatial and temporal regulation of the different phases of the enterovirus life cycle and to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. To further our understanding, the newly established ERC Advanced team will develop and use novel methodologies to study this process. These can be divided in two profiles for which we are recruiting and cross-interest is endorsed
Application Deadline: 24 October 2022
2. Postdoctoral Positions in Evaluation of Preschool Education
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.) has a vacancy for a postdoctoral researcher in the project EVENING: Impact Evaluation Study of Preschool Education: a natural experiment in Dutch municipalities. The main tasks are contributing to the evaluation in a multidisciplinary team, analyzing registry data and data collected in the field, and writing reports and academic papers. This multidisciplinary project is a collaboration between two departments of Utrecht University (Utrecht School of Economics and the Department of Child, Family and Education Studies) and Sardes Ltd. The project examines the impact Dutch preschool education policy for disadvantaged children (related to socio-economic status and migration background).
Application Deadline: 24 October 2022

3. Postdoctoral Positions in Chromatin Biology
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
In addition to DNA sequence, chemical modifications of histones and DNA provide an important regulatory layer for gene expression control. In this context, individual and combinatorial modifications guide spatiotemporal recruitment of regulatory factors to specific regions in the genome through attraction or repulsion. Despite many efforts, the underlying principles that determine how chromatin marks influence protein-genome interactions remain unclear and require further investigation. We aim to cover this gap by a) dissecting how interactions between transcriptional regulators and the genome are specified, and b) how these interactions impact chromatin and transcription during biological processes.
Application Deadline: 24 October 2022
4. Postdoctoral Positions in Automated Optogenetic Control of Cellular Dynamics
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
You will be part of the research group of Lukas Kapitein external link at Utrecht University. In this Postdoc position you will develop event-driven imaging and high-precision control strategies to enable real-time manipulation of key aspects of cell and developmental biology (smart microscopy). Ultimately, the goal is to establish microscopy-guided automated real-time control of biological processes. This will enable automatic identification of certain cellular states or events (e.g. a cell in mitosis, a cell moving out of a niche) within a tissue followed by the automatic and iterative light-driven perturbations that can alter the cellular state or event (e.g. altering the orientation of the mitotic spindle, directing cells to specific locations). You will collaborate with different research groups within the IMAGINE! project.

5. Postdoctoral Positions in Optogenetic control of cell division and cell fate in C. elegans
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
In this post-doctoral research position in the group of Sander van den Heuvel external link at Utrecht University, you will develop methods for laser-light mediated control of the orientation of cell division in the animal model C. elegans. In follow up studies, you will determine how the division orientation affects the fate and division pattern of daughter cells, based in part on super-resolution microscopy. You will work together with the groups within the IMAGINE! project who also work on these systems and contribute to similar analyses in vivo (In particular the Kapitein Lab external link of Utrecht University). The overall goal is to acquire automated real-time (optogenetic) control strategies to steer processes within native cells in their tissue environment, as an important strategy for dissecting the molecular mechanisms and underlying principles of animal development.
Application Deadline: 26 October 2022
6. Postdoctoral Positions in Image Captioning
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
We are seeking to hire a highly motivated, driven, and talented postdoc for a period of 15 months, for 0.8 FTE. In this project, you will be sing deep learning methods for image captioning using visual and non-visual knowledge. The postdoc position is part of ROCAP project, a Proof-of-Concept grant from the European Research Council (ERC) to Prof Yoad Winter, and builds on the results of the ROCKY ERC Advanced project external link. As such, the focus will be on demonstrating the usability of the ROCKY methods of image captioning to applicable domains. The project will be carried out at the Institute for Language Sciences (formerly Utrecht Institute of Linguistics OTS) at Utrecht University, the Netherlands.
Application Deadline: 1 November 2022

7. Postdoctoral Positions in Evaluating the effect of experiences with the police on legitimacy and crime
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
The postdoc will work within a team including the PI (dr. Amy Nivette) and a PhD candidate. The Postdoc will focus particularly on the first research issue as well as dissemination to academic and non-academic audiences (including the police). They will also have the opportunity to work with the research team and collaborators to expand the topic based on their own expertise and ideas, and play a role in supervising the PhD project.
Application Deadline: 28 October 2022
8. Postdoctoral Positions
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
The Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe external link (RENFORCE) at the Utrecht University School of Law is hiring a postdoctoral researcher in the field of shared rule-making and enforcement in Europe. We are looking for a researcher who is capable of building and strengthening a research network involving both national and international partners. RENFORCE is a dynamic research programme for some 60 researchers from EU law, international law, constitutional law, administrative law, criminal law, private law, economic law, and criminology. It builds on the Utrecht Law School Europa Institute’s renowned and longstanding reputation in the field of the interaction between European and national legal orders.

9. Postdoctoral Positions in the field of Just Transition
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
The Prince Claus Chair (PCC) of Equity and Development (2022-2024) seeks to employ a post-doctoral researcher in the field of Just Transition for two years starting in January 2022 to be based at the Utrecht University Centre for Global Challenges and Utrecht University Pathways to Sustainability (PtS). The position is connected to the Prince Claus Chair (PCC) for Equity and Development, an honorary professorship which for the 2022-2024 period will be held by Prof. Dr. Fatima Denton, who is currently the director of the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA) in Accra, Ghana. The primary goal of the Chair is to democratize the debate around Just Transitions external link, ensuring voice and participation of those communities most affected by the sustainability transition processes, in Africa in particular.
Application Deadline: 4 November 2022
10. Postdoctoral Positions in Stable and Clumped Methane isotope measurements
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
Methane is emitted from different sources to the atmosphere and carries a distinct isotopic composition, characteristic for the respective source process. This composition can be used to quantify the relative contributions of methane from different source categories in the atmosphere, and methane isotope measurements are becoming a standard tool for source partitioning. Yet, these measurements are challenging and datasets from different laboratories are not always compatible, which can significantly affect the scientific interpretation. This is part of the European Research project “Metrology for European Emissions Verification on Methane Isotopes external link” (ISOMET). This project is designed to harmonize atmospheric isotope measurements across Europe, including the conventional stable isotopic composition as well as the novel clumped isotope signatures.
Application Deadline: 30 October 2022
11. Postdoctoral Positions in Rule of Law Backsliding and Human Rights
Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowships:
The dynamics of rule of law protection are at the core of the research of the Montaigne Centre for Rule of Law and Administration of Justice. In many states, the rule of law is under pressure or even backsliding. While this issue has been much studied both from constitutional law as well as European Union law perspectives, this position will focus on the possible responses from international human rights institutions.
