The Neelamegham laboratory, within the departments of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, and Medicine at the University at Buffalo, works on a variety of research problems related to human inflammatory diseases, thrombosis, cancer, and virology. We apply molecular engineering principles including gene editing and high-throughput methods in these areas.

We are looking for Postdoctoral Associates interested in pursuing a career in Translational Glycosciences and GlycoEngineering. This involves the study of complex mammalian carbohydrates decorating all human cells, and the pathways that synthesize them in the context of human health and disease.

Positions are open both for Computational Scientists interested in big data applications and wet-lab Experimentalists interested in bench research at the cell/molecular/animal level. While prior experience in Glycosciences is not critical, interest is necessary. 3. Postdoctoral Position in Biological Sciences

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Santos Laboratory, recently relocated to the University at Buffalo, utilizes a variety of molecular tools, computational approaches and field- and laboratory-based studies to examine the ecology, evolution, genetics, physiology, and symbiosis biology of a range of terrestrial and aquatic (both freshwater and marine) organisms, including host- and environmentally-associated microbiomes.

In the above context, three broad areas of current research are:

  • Phylogeography and physiology of microbiomes and crustaceans from the anchialine ecosystem of the Pacific Basin
  • Animal-microbial interactions via grazing or symbioses
  • The genetic basis of coloration variation and longevity in crustaceans

The successful candidate will have a chance to work with existing, as well as generating novel, large-scale datasets including genomic (DNA/RNA) resources. The candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers from multiple institutions and government agencies on projects involving the above.

The candidate would also be expected to work with Dr. Santos on developing research proposals to funding agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF) in the above areas. The UB Social Development Lab examines the development and prevention of aggressive behavior, peer victimization, and bullying behavior among young children. We have several federally funded school readiness projects in the lab testing the transition from preschool to kindergarten.

We are looking for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate who will serve as a project director for a 5-year NIH supported clinical trial testing a teacher implemented with coaching social and emotional skills program in preschool classrooms.

9. Postdoctoral Position 

Summary of Postdoctoral Fellowship:

The Alexey Akimov group in the Department of Chemistry, at the University at Buffalo, seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to work on the development, implementation, and comprehensive assessment of quantum-classical and semiclassical methodologies for nonadiabatic dynamics.

Within this project, a range of advanced nonadiabatic and quantum dynamics (NA/QD) techniques will be implemented into the Libra library, including coupled and independent trajectory surface hopping methods, schemes based on stochastic Schrodinger equation and Lindblad formalism, equilibrium and non-equilibrium Fermi golden rule rate calculations, exact-factorization-based techniques and more.

Relying on these and other techniques already available within the Libra package, the Postdoctoral Associate will conduct a comprehensive validation and assessment of available NA/QD techniques using a range of model Hamiltonians to develop a “Jacob’s ladder” of NA/QD methods. Within the project, the Postdoctoral Associate will also be able to interface these NA/QD techniques with electronic structure methods to contribute to applied atomistic studies of charge and energy transfer in solar energy materials.

During their appointment in the group, the Postdoctoral Associate will have access to adequate computational resources at the Center for Computational Research (CCR) at UB. S/he will be involved in other activities such as presenting at conferences, mentoring student, contributing to proposals, and will participate in various training and outreach events.
