5. Fully Funded PhD Position in Film: an Ecology of Light
Summary of PhD Program:
This PhD project weaves together film, ecology, and light, by addressing light as the filmic substance in the context of ecological discourse. Light remains the fundamental, yet elusive, material of cinema: it is controlled, captured, manipulated, and distributed in theatres and exhibitions to create new, shared experiences. Articulated by sound, the ‘material’ of light connects cinema to an exterior, ever-changing environment, offering a site for reflection. The two meanings of the term ‘reflection’ indicate that light and thought are intimately linked.

6. Fully Funded PhD Position in Filmic Visions and Pushing Boundaries
Summary of PhD Program:
The proposed project will involve an investigation into filmic forms that push against, cross and/or transgress boundaries between fiction, ethnographic, essayistic or documentary cinema. We are particularly interested in PhD projects that view this transgression of cinematic genres as a metaphor for other forms of transgression in relation to questions around identity, cultural belonging, migration, gender and sexuality. Over the last two decades there has been a great influx of transnational art house cinema which has consistently undermined preconceived cinematic orthodoxies.

7. Fully Funded PhD Position in Photography, Landscape and Trauma
Summary of PhD Program:
The proposed PhD project is an in-depth investigation into the complex relationship between photography, landscape and trauma. PhD projects should be concerned with the overlap between these three keywords by analysing a specific, well-defined and highly original case study proposed by the applicant. We can support projects where photographic media was used to represent sites of trauma, or where photography played a key role in remembering events, yet likewise we are also interested in ways with which images can be used as a way to engage with memory and history in new and innovative ways.

8. Fully Funded PhD Position in Photography and the Digital Body
Summary of PhD Program:
The proposed project will involve an investigation into the relationship between photographic practices and the body in the digital age. Photography has undergone a major shift since the emergence of digital technologies. The mobile phone camera in particular has ‘democratized’ access to photography, transforming it into a widely used form of communication practiced across the globe. In parallel to this shift, the platforms on which photographs are shared have grown exponentially: Instagram is now one of the most popular social media sites today.

9. Fully Funded PhD Position in Organisational Resilience and Crisis Management
Summary of PhD Program:
Central governments and organisations have been susceptible to events that have challenged them to maintain service delivery to their residents’ expectations. Although organisations such as local governments continue to build capacities to withstand the adversity from such disruptive events, the persistent nature of these events gives a signal that the situations will only get more intense rather than better.

Summary of PhD Program:
Digital transformation results in innovative business models that lead to value creation for firms. It encompasses three important phases: digitisation, digitalisation, and digital transformation. 11. Fully Funded PhD Position in Social Equity in Urban Projects
Summary of PhD Program:
The project draws from various studies, including Trudeau (2018), who argues that social equity must be considered from the beginning of sustainable development initiatives to ensure fair access and prevent exclusion. Examining how social equity is conceptualised, operationalised, and prioritised relative to environmental and other objectives is crucial for developing more inclusive project designs (Manaugh, Badami, & El-Geneidy, 2015).

12. Fully Funded PhD Position in Gender-Responsive Project Management (GRPM)
Summary of PhD Program:
Gender inequality remains a global challenge, with women disproportionately affected by poverty and holding fewer economic opportunities (Götzmann & Bainton, 2021; ILO, 2018; UN Women, 2024). Although integrating gender considerations in projects is crucial, only a limited percentage of development projects adopt gender-responsive approaches For instance, APM (2024) data shows that only 30% of project professionals are women, and only 27.13% of projects in the EU include gender-focused practices (European Parliament, 2022). Lack of intentional gender integration in projects can risk reinforcing inequities, especially impacting women and gender minorities (Thomas & Buckle-Henning, 2007; UN Women, 2021).
