The Department of Psychology has three research themes covering Cognitive and Brain Sciences (with expertise in Reading, Face-Processing, Attention and Memory), Health and Clinical Psychology (with expertise in Eating Behaviour, Stress & Chronic Illness, and Resilience), and Forensic Investigation and Cyber Psychology. Researchers within these themes also contribute to the Ageing and Dementia Research Centre and the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Research Centre. We utilise quantitative, qualitative, mixed and multi methodologies to explore a range of theoretical and applied topics in Psychology.

Summary of PhD Program:
This pathway includes interdisciplinary work across natural and social sciences to tackle a range of sustainability challenges. Potential supervisors for projects in this pathway have cross-UKRI expertise, having run research projects funded by AHRC, EPSRC and NERC in addition to the ESRC. They lead an interdisciplinary BU research cluster, ‘Resolving the extinction crisis: sustainable and technological solutions for biodiversity and society’, with four BU-funded post-doctoral research assistants to provide support to PhD students. Summary of PhD Program:
The Health, Wellbeing and Society pathway brings together internationally recognised social scientists and practitioners who possess research and teaching strengths in the broad area of health, wellbeing and society – in particular the wider determinants of health, lifestyle behaviours, physical activity and mental wellbeing in contemporary society.
We use multi and interdisciplinary perspectives to help understand how to tackle grand challenges for health and wellbeing and draw on insights across a wide range of health-related social science (including public health, economics, health policy, psychology, anthropology, geography, sociology, social gerontology, social epidemiology, social work, social care and education).
